Fuel Pump

2006 2.4 SS with 94k miles

Thinking my issue is the fuel pump based on all the searching on the site ive done, but wanted to see some opinions.

Been having hard starts over the last week getting progressively worse. Smelt gas when I went out to the garage the last few days. Thought maybe clogged filter... bought a new filter and crawled under it last night to replace and notice the gas tank was pretty wet on the passenger side where the 2 lines disappear to the top of the tank. Wiped my finger on it, smelled like gas. Went ahead and replaced the filter and still having the same problem.

Car will try and try and try to start (turning over fine + have brand new battery) but wont for about the first 15 sec. Or if I try to let it auto start it wont, but 2nd try it starts right up.

Several topics on this said there is a recall or bulletin about this issue and to call the dealership to run VIN and if its cover and under 120k the GM will take care of it as a warranty issue. I have my local dealer looking into this and they are supposed to be calling me back...

What do you guys think?

Will need to definitely replace the leaking o-ring; Not sure if it was a recall or just TSB, I havent actually looked, But I do replace the fuel pump assembly quite often at work because of the leaking fuel issue.

The only way to know for sure if your fuel pump is to blame, you need to check fuel pressure and fuel volume.
And if you have access to advanced diagnostic tools, you can watch the amperage draw of the fuel pump while the vehicle is running(or just cranking).

Thanks for the tips!

I actually replaced the pump today with an aftermarket one and it started right up and could actually hear the pump kick on with the ignition on, ran it around town and let it sit for about 5 hours. (which normally it wouldn't start again sitting that long) Started right up no issues. Hopefully tomorrow morning brings the same good fortune.

Replaced it with an Airtex fuel pump I bought from Advance Auto.
