muffler swap

I was just wondering if anyone has done a muffler and cat converter swap instead of buying a full system. It seems like a quick fix until you buy a turbo or supcharger because you wont need the larger piping. Lemme know your thoughts

i think a few people have and are happy with it.

its the cheaper way to go about it, but your limiting the size of the exhaust tube by doing that.

Swap mufflers? As in swapping mufflers between cobalt models or swaping them for aftermarket.

Because a lot of people have jus thrown on a muffler.

Killa SS- what aftermarket muffler did you put on? I'm also considering an aftermarket muffler. I don't know what the best one to get is.

Im debating between Folgers and Maxwell House. I think the Maxwell House is richer and packs more of a punch.

I only changed out my muffler and it sounds nice nothing real noticeable at idle but when you get on it it sounds nice and then mellows out on highway driving to a slight tone nothing irritating at all I put on a magna flow installed for 105.00 instead of full exhaust why buy 2.5 exhaust if you all ready have it is my theory. Change out from the axel back and save the other cash for something else

Magnaflow is what i was thinking. My friend has that on his SS/SC and it sounds good. Like you said its not noticable from stock, but you know the difference.

I have just a welded on muffler and it sounds great....the stock muffler and cat is probally the most restrictive part of our exhaust systems, not the piping size. So you will probally see a fairly nice gain over stock, but if you want that extra gain the bigger piping will give you aswell, it will cost quite abit more though....
I will upgrade to 3" header back as soon as I can afford it though, but will probally do a few more mods before that....

Lol, u guys are mean with the coffee can ****, mines a Skunk 2 racing muffler.picked it up for like $80, $40 for the install. it sounds real nice. jsut look on the internet, anything with a 2.5 inlet will fit on our stock exhaust system. theres nice mufflers on ebay for real cheap, i bought my buddy one for his cavi. total of $30, that was with shipping.

The muffler with a 2.5 inlet will probally slip right onto your stock 2.25 pipping, if not, you can buy adapters, but I am pretty sure it should work. A welder works the best though....
