Performance vs. Warranty

I have an outstanding dealership, but every time they see my car they grunge at the mods. Right now with my intake, extrude honed GMPP header, and megan catback they are borderline voiding the warranty. I can still get things done under warranty like i'm supposed to. So I'm good for now. This raises the question, is there anything else performance wise that they would absolutely not care about similar to intakes/catbacks. I'm really only looking for horsepower/torque improvements and nothing else. I know the dealerships can't stand aftermarket downpipes because they throw CEL's. So my next question is, is there a header out there that possibly would not throw a CEL and not make the dealer just toss out the contract? THANK YOU

it's very rare to throw a code with a header...just make sure the o2 sensor is in there nice and tight. If you throw a code you most likely installed it wrong.

all shorty headers benefit mid to high range, look into the CA v1 header, relatively cheap and good gains.

yeah i used to have the ZZP midlength header/downpipe combo. it sucked for me for some reason and it threw a code. I dont have a local tuner anymore and im just going to get a box tune either from vector or someone else. im just interested in a shorty header thats nice and wont throw anything since ill be in college and need it to be good to go no problems. do you suggest any others besides CA v1? those are all sold out at the moment, is there anything else worthy of buying?

really all shorty headers are the same, you can't go wrong with any of them. The only reason a header/dp combo would throw a code is because you don't space the rear o2 sensor out. With my DP i used two spark plug anti foulers and it gets rid of the p0420 code.

they can't vpod your warranty because of the installation of aftermarket parts unless those said parts are the direct cause of the part failure in question.... magnusson-moss warranty act.......... if your tranny blew and they tried to void your warranty and refuse work based on an intake and exhaust, you'd ******* own that dealership

yeah i know about that act and all, very familiar with it as they have almost tried to pull that **** with me once. they said in a phone call, "we see you have an intake and exhaust on your cobalt and it may cause for some concern for your warranty but we called and examined it with a supervisor and determined it was no cause for concern and your engine is under warranty have a good day sir", this was back when cylinder 3 had a bad day. the only thing they can say about the 2nd gear is that i cant drive or have been treating improperly and driving hard. they probably wont because ill bet someone fucked up installing the synchro because i know i didnt do anything to destroy it or whatever, had this **** for not even 2 months.

Its common in these 2.4L's it seems, there are a couple of us with this problem. There is another guy in here that claims to be a tech at a chevy shop and he tried saying its user error, but if it was user error 1st and 3rd gear would be doing the same thing. I'm subscribing to this thread to keep it for proof that my car isn't the only one having this problem.

mine isn't a really bad grind, if I let the car idle down a bit for 2 or 3 seconds then shift into 2nd it doesn't grind. The dealer tried telling me that it is normal. BULLSHIT!! Let me know how yours goes.

Seems like we have the EXACT same problem man. If I let it idle down inbetween shifts it will not grind, but there are moments around here where I would have a need to shift quickly into 2nd and it does a little grind.

Warranty and Performance should've even be mentioned in the same sentence....

But you could take the car to another dealer, I know mine isn't smart enough to even realize certain parts are aftermarket.

wait, so are you buying a new header and downpipe because of a code, or are there other reasons as well?

no i traded my ZZP for some SS/SC rims, the deal was too good to pass up because I knew I would never use the combo again, I dont have a local tuner anymore and Im going back to college a few hours away so I need my car to be fully under warranty in case something crazy happens (like cylinder 3 misfiring over 1 million times) again. If a shorty header wont throw a code then I am good to go and I will get a box tune a little later to make it even better. I just dont want to hassle with the dealer over something stupid. If it only means like 5-10hp over a new engine then I will gladly go with this route. And I tend to be "The Balt' Destroyer v2" and things break a lot.
