scratching sound

im gettin a really annoying sound from my brakes while driving without even touching the brakes at random times i get a sound like nails on a chalkboard coming from just the driver front brake when i press the brak it gets louder but the more i press in the brake after a certan point it will stop and when i release the break somtimes the noise will continue and somtimes it will stop. i was thinking maybe somthing is rubbing the rotor? i dont really know whats goin on any one have any ideas or suggestions?

Hmm sounds like your pads might be bad, but I dunno pretty easy to check them, anywhere does free brake inspections

It could be a wheel bearing gone bad or a really bad brake job that has worn down the pad already and is set too close. I've heard a similar thing on Pontiac GPs.

There's a tab that contacts the rotor and makes the nails on chalkboard sound when the pads wear down. This is a wear indicator and is there to annoy you into changing your pads before the backing metal hits the rotor and you have to replace the rotor too. Check your pads for wear, and see if the little tab is real close to (or touching) the rotor. It might just be time for pads in spite of the low mileage.

make sure you sand and clean the caliper around where the pads sit. also use the grease they give you. this will prevent any noise

that may be what is wrong with your pads now, vibrating metal against metal. if you forget that it will make noise even if you have new rotors and pads
