SO.....
This engine is going to be 170 170 or something around that... i'm guessing a stock 1/4 of 15.2 ...... Why should someone buy the sc version over this one? More displacement= more potential right ?
Oh and I got my CObalt brochure in the mail yesturday I can't wait to see an ss in person.

I got mine today as well. Took about 7 days. I was quite disappointed to see the same old pics and the limited print.
I emailed Chevy asking them to put up more pics on the site. It would help if more members kindly asked them as well.

well for one, its always easier to get more hp out of a blown engine then a NA one. Although the 2.0 S/C might not be as easy.
But I agree, I don't think the 2.0 S/C will have a huge advantage over the 2.4L.
Car and Driver got a Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart (2.4L 162hp) to do a 15.5@90mph.
The Cobalt should be a solid 100+lbs lighter and if the 2.4L is as good as they were promoting it, should be al ow 15 sec car.

chevy rates the SC at 14.9 in the 1/4, and the 2.4 SS will be auto only, so it won't be THAT fast, maybe 15.9... but until they r tested, no one knows... and did u people get an actual brochure? i only got a 1 page thing, just a front and back... dealers aren't expecting brochures until after the car arrives, maybe late october... good way to get people to order a car, when they can't see any decent pics of it... u would think since its a brand new car, they'ed have the brochures out early so u could see what ur buying...

I am holding out hope that when the 2.4L arrives it WON'T be auto only.
And until it does arrive we won't know. So if a 5 speed is availible--low 15 and the auto high 15.
That would still stomp any other 4 cly automatic in its class.
Payments on a S/C might be a bit too high for me--but a 2.4L (and only a 5 speed!!) might fit the bill.
GM better do the right thinkg here---just use the same trans as the 2.0 S/C SS and viola! 2.4L 5 speed.

well the 2.4 twin cam in j's typically runs mid to high 15's with a good driver, and high 15's-low 16's auto.
assuming a close weight(most TC j's weigh around 2650-2700lbs), the cobalt should run low 15's with a 5 spd, and 15.8ish auto(all depending on gearing of course)
that's my prediction, anyway

.4 more displacement, and VVT are the only reasons to take this engine over the S/C version. But with Auto only...no. It's marketing for a different group of people. You retain the style of the SS model, while having a more refined engine (VVT) and the Automatic transmission. At least, I assume that to be their logic. Who knows.

Yeah I thinks it's meant for strong performance and more refinement at a lower price point then the S/C. I don't think a lot of people over the age of 25 will be enamoured with the big spoiler on the S/C the exterior of the SS seems a little more toned down.
