Synthetic oil?
Ok guys... i don't know why there is all of this confusion...the 2.4SS comes with synthetic Mobil 1...if you don't believe so, look at your engine oil life %...if you are at 2000 miles and still at 80%, then obviously you have synthetic.
Your dealer probably doesn't know anything about your car...because mine sure as hell doesn't. Just read the owner's manual.

If you bothered to read all the posts you'd know what the confusion is about. It has been answered by now.
Your logic is flawed. Assuming that because the oil life monitor is at X percentage at a certain mileage is no indication what so ever of the kind of oil thats in the engine.
For your information, according to GM most oil life monitors are getting 8,500 miles beofre coming on. (this is the passive display I think, unlike the % display we get in Cobalts)

I went 3000 miles in my own 2.4L SS and the oil life was over 60%! And it had regular oil! I had it changed anyhow, being the first oil change.
Oil life indicator results are fairly independent on everyones car because everyone drives different and the tempretures are different. Directly quoted from the owners manual:
"This is based on engine revolutions and tempreture and not mileage. Based on driving conditions the mileage at which the oil change can vary considerably"
And the owners manual says synthetic on the 2.0 SS/SC only, period. Belelive me I have it right beside me right now. And it does not have the word synthetic in the 2.2L/2.4L oil section 5-17

The engine oil life indicator doesn't mean you haveihave synthetic or not just because it has a high % value. It's a more accurate way of reading oil life then the normal timeframe/miles based mesurements. So having good driving habits alone can cause it to have a high % remaining. Also as the oil gets older the % decreases faster, and it's also based on how you drive the car as well. GM suggests changing the oil at the oil life indicator % or once a year.
If the Solstice and Sky don't use Synthetic (which I know mine doesn't) then I'm pretty sure the lower powered varients of the 2.4L VVT don't either. Looking in my Solstice manual states normal oil as the base as well.

Hahahaha... 710...
The way we are looking at it is that the 2.4 does not have synthetic oil. It does not mention synthetic in the manual and the solstice also does not have synthetic. So, why would our cheaper car have synthetic. If anyone wants synthetic oil that is one thing. But, the 2.4 has regular oil in it from the factory.
Here's the breakdown.
The 2.0L S/C has synthetic from the factory. So use synthetic.
The 2.4L n/a has regular oil from the factory. Use whatever you'd like.
The 2.2L base has regular oil from the factory. Use whatever you'd like.
That's fo' sho'.
