Tuning VVT?

has anyone played around with tuning VVT? a local shop around here has HPT anbd a dynojet. he just recently had someone come iun with a G6 GXP with the 3.8L w/ VVT or w/e engine and he tuned the VVT on it and said he got an extra 11whp and 50 lb/wtq on the car. he kinda told me the jist of what he did which was just play with valve overlap and whatnot.

i was wondering if anyone knows the specs as to how far the valves can open and so forth? i want to try it but i also know it's dangerous to just jump into.

You can get some additional power by changing the VVT. You can also damage the valves by playing with VVT. Each car is different as far as the max that the VVT will go for each cam. When tuning for power you don't typically need to worry about the max overlap, you are only concerned with the overlap the nets you the best power.

the only reason i was worried about max is for safety of the engine purposes. and i also understand that you have to find the correct balance of overlap to provide enough torque but at the same time not destroy your top end either.

im just really trying to see if anyone has really played with it at all.

and those numbers i put up about the G6 the car was completely stock. so that makes me even more curious as to what my car could do now that im boosted. because obviosuly stock im still running NA tables for the VVT and adding boost i would think would shift where i need to be as far as overlap is concerned. im really green to all of this so im just trying to learn stuff. (i am not tuning my own car lol, just throwing this out there)

It would be really nice if you lived closer to me xander lol. I am actually going to build three tables for your car and then we need to stick the car on some rolls to see how it does. A dyno would really show us how far we can make extra power with your setup also show where we have a falling off of power. Send me a message when the next time we can mess with your car some more.

When going from N/A to FI you definately would benefit from changing the VVT tables. With FI you don't have to rely on the engine to "suck" air so you can open the intake valves sooner to allow more air to be pushed in which will be your biggest gains that you will see.
