Would you step up to a 2.0 S/C

I have seen alot of traitors lately (j/k! ) getting rid of their 2.4L and going 2.0 S/C.

If you could afford it, would you?

Have you even driven a s/c?

I have driven two and I'd have to say no.

I really like the extra power--the torque is so nice.

But the ride is very harsh and causes little rattles and vibrations that are not in my car.

IMO, the 2.4L feels far more refined and while the FE3 can't match the FE5 S/C suspension, it does still behave very nicely--without beating you up.

Then theres the leather.....which I hate.

I know tons of people cannot read----2.4L owners ONLY!!

a turbo is going to mean alot of down time on the install, and your warranty just flew out the window... SS/SC, just swap a pulley.... lol id like to see the 2.4L push 20 psi

IMO I think the difference was worth it, but the car mechanics wasn't the only reason for me. I didn't want black anymore, I fell in love with this orange and wanted that color. So that was another turning for me.

So far I don't notice the suspension being more rough, but I only got it yersterday. I thought the wheel hop was bad on the 2.4, I can't wait till I experience it on this thing.

I don't understand why the 2.4 guys keep saying they're going to waste the ss/sc's when the turbo for the 2.4 comes out. Even with that turbo you will be around 245whp when the ss/sc stage II is putting down 250-260whp. Along with the lower ride height, better suspension, body kit, 18" wheels, 2-tone seats etc. I think they will be almost even speed wise but you get more with an ss/sc. I love all the cobalts so my point here is why stab at the ss/sc?

Insurance costs is what really kept me from going SS/SC. I love the looks, performance is stellar, but I couldn't justify another $300/yr for insurance on a "sports car"

The 2.4 is enough for me.

I think they just use the turbo 2.4 to make themselves feel better about keeping the 2.4, lol. I did for a while actually until I realized the tranny issues, warranty, and downtime. Plus the cash and what not.

Features 2.4 < 2.0
Overall Quality 2.4 = 2.0
Ride 2.4 > 2.0
Handling 2.4 < 2.0

Your still paying insurance to have the badge "SS" on your car though (which btw is classified at this point as a sports car in the system) , so your telling me you won't pay $25 more a month if it's 300/yr more broken down into the 12 months?

Not harpin on you but your statement made no sense.

My loaded 2.4L had a sticker price that was around what a 2.0L S/C would have cost, so I could have had one if I wanted one. The point was I didn't. For now, the 2.4L is fast enough for me and I want to have fun making it faster. For now, a higher displacement/compression NA engine is enough for me and I'll just have some fun with bolt-ons until my 3-year warranty is up (same time one of my loans is up) and then it's a tuurrrbbbbooooo for me! I really didn't like the wing and the colored leather inserts, but I did really like the heated leather that came with mine. What good does an upgraded stock suspension do when most people (modders) are going to upgrade all of it anyways?

i decided before i went to the dealership that i wanted a 2.4 and thats exactly what i got... i didnt even test drive the sc but i did test one afterwards and honestly fell in love with it but i just couldnt see trading my car in and paying like 30+ thousand for a car which should be at most 25,000. also the only ss/sc's around here are fully loaded w/ recaro seats and the whole racing package and thats if you can find one and the only few that i liked were out of my price range because of this equation... 17,500(owed on 2.4)-14,000(what 2.4 is worth)=3,500(balance on 2.4) 25,000(cost of ss/sc)+3,500(balance on 2.4)=28,500(total owed on cars)-0(money down) 28,500(amount owed)x16%(interest rate)=33,060(total on car with interest) 33,060(total w/ no taxes added in)/72(length of loan)=459(payments per month at the lowest)

^^^ Yep my 2.4 was worth 14,100. I put enough down to cover the upside cost I was in, and also to lower the price on the SS/SC a little. Plus my interest rate is 5.5% so that helped.

yeah if i were older than 19 (dammit) and my credit history was long enough for me not to be "high risk" and i could get a lower interest rate i would probably do it... hell i might do it anyways eventually since im going to be making like 30,000+ per year at my new job which id say isnt to bad for a first year college student.

I'm debating on trading mine in as a matter of fact I'm gonna go look at a 05 silver SS/SC today with only 10k on it for 19K gonna try to get them down to 18500. Why you might ask:

1. its silver and my black beauty gets dirty to fast
2. I'll never have the cash to save 3000-4000 for a turbo anytime soon
3. hopefully it has the G85

Now don't get me wrong I like my 2.4 especially when I kill people who have turbos on there car and they say that the supercharger is quiet lol then I say its not supercharged then we pull over and the people freak out lol. but still debating, cuz I can get a custom turbo setup for around 2000bucks.

I think if you're just a high school/college student and you're just looking for a little speed and modifying a little bit, the SS/SC is a nice vehicle to start out with.

Now, if you're a serious car modifyer...I'd take the 2.4 and turn that motor out with turbo boost. Actually...I plan on doing that sort of...Ever heard of a hybrid ECOTEC? I'll leave it as that

But yeah, if you're serious about running high power, I'd take the higher stroke and replace everything else inside the motor. Well, that's just me anyways.

you will most likely be able to finance the turbo...

Unless you have hookups like crazy, $2000 sounds too cheap to have everything you need. What does this "custom setup" include?

Comes down to one thing. How fast can you afford to go? The 2.2L can pump out over 1000 HP if you can afford to buy the parts and have them installed. I could have bought a 2.2 or 2.4 and boosted the power but the 2.0L is special to me because it came stock with a super charger. It's just a preference.

We must band together to fight the imports! (Music in the background.) Later this year new vehicles are coming out that are as fast as the SRT. Mazda is coming out with a 274 HP turbo charged Mazda 3, Toyota has a 264 HP Camry, Dodge has a 300 HP Caliber. Okay, so Dodge is not an import. But it might as well be!

Going to go take my medication now....LOL
