I may be WAAAAYYYYYY wrong on this, I'm not tech by any means, but I would guess that you can't really get more torque than HP, when you consider the fact our enine is small, and HP is what generates torque...You have to have the HP to make the torque, so to me logic would suggest that the torque(At least in our cars) cannot surpass the HP.

Again, I may be wrong, but just thought I'd put it out there

I really wouldnt worry about it, torque is never going to be in short supply with this car

even stock 1st gear is basically useless, when you start modding 2nd will be as well

Yeah, put a really small pulley on with no cooling mods, and watch your torque soar, while your hp will...well, your torque will soar.

this is extremely wrong. Hp is generated by Torque through a math problem.

"Horsepower is a unit of power. It can be defined in many ways. In its basic sense, it's defined as work done in a straight line as described above under "Power". But when the work is not done in a straight line, it must be defined in a different way: torque.

Horsepower = (Torque X RPM) / 5252

Now although horsepower in this instance is defined by rotational forces, it is no different than straight-line horsepower. For instance, if you wrapped a rope around the circle and allowed the torque to pull the rope, the force on the rope would now be exactly as defined above."

ty, i sometimes forget that there are a few people on this site that actually know what they are talking about. Instead of all the nameless idiots spewing out crap they heard in F&F.

With torque the power curve is more important than the peak number. And usually the best way for more torque is more air or to get the air moving faster through the engine.

It's impossible to have more torque and hp? I think LT1s would beg to differ... or l98s... or most gm v8s

just an FYI the F35 trans is rated at 298 FT pounds of torque. or **** if you got the loot get your gears cryoed and go for those high numbers. Also I think the 2.0 L cobalt that hahn did made 420 hp and only 299 torque

Um, if your torque peaks before 5252 rpm, then it's entirely possible to have more torque than horsepower. Perfect example - my old Grand Am. 155hp and 185 tq. Why? Because it peaked at like 4000 rpm and fell flat on its face.

base model cobalt - 145hp, 155 tq

motortrend is wrong, or you read it incorrectly. there's loads of cars that can be named that make more torque than hp

Most Diesel engines make more torque than horsepower.

read post #13, he explains it pretty good. yeah I read it wrong........sorta. It's not possible calculating torque from hP anyway... physically is another story. Using this formula you will never get a higher TQ.

MY BAD!

lol ya you can make more tq then hp or vis-versa, its all based on that equation though. it depends on where you make the power, most v8s dont rev to 7-8k, thats why they have more tq

Torque and HP are TOTALY DIFFERENT UNITS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You must first understand what torque and Hp are before you say you want more of one vs the other.
