nitromethane

so ive been reading up on nitromethane, and have been thinking about mixing a little bit of it in with my methanol. has anybody tried this yet? here is a link w/ a lot of info on different racing fuels and their characteristics...

umm...ok, they really need to start having screen tests to filter out any douschebags who think they can have any opinions in a car forum. Any "non-douschebag" replies from ppl who run or have run nitro?

doesn't nitrometh need like a ridiculous amount of fuel to be put in the cylinder to make power? it doesn't even need oxygen to burn, and it is highly explosive. i wouldn't put that in my car

some people I guess. I dont know how well our aluminum engines will hold up to the heat of nitro-meth. I think we may have some melting issues if anything.

It does need oxygen, but it doesn't need as much.. it can make something like 2.3-2.5 times the power with the same amount of oxygen as gasoline does...

but it also takes something like 7 times the amount of nitromethane as gasoline to fully combust the same amount of oxygen..lol

I've been seeing additives lately to add nitromethane to methanol injection.. i like this idea...

I run 2% nitrometh in my corvette I was always told you don't want to add more than 5% it added like 7whp but Im injecting over 600cc/min on an 800 crank horsepower car so your gains may not be that high

This! It is some nasty stuff. The cars that run it have to be started on alcohol because it is not conducive to cold starts. Never heard of anyone running it in a street car because it needs any ultra high CR and rich mixture to burn properly. OP I doubt you will notice any difference vs just your water/meth mixture. You can always run a little more meth if you need more octane.

it was started by alot of grand national guys in doses of 2-5% in a water/meth mixture its not about adding octane nitrometh carries its own oxygen thats why it needs so little o2 to burn in the chamber so it adds some some 02 into the cylinder
