Angry *IMPORTANT* painting question

ok so some guy sideswiped me in the parking lot obviously, and i didn't see who it was, but i have a lot of paint chipped on the right rear fender. It is rough. I have a black SS so it looks God awful right now. I plan on taking it to a body shop to get done professionally, but is there SOMETHING i could do to make it look a lil better like maybe sand it and spray some black spray paint on the bad areas and then put some clear on it???? thank you

There is touch up paint that you can get from GM. Comes with a brush like tool to use JUST for the cracks. But I don't know how big of a "scratch" you have.

Body shop would be the best bet. If you spray paint it over the original coat, it will be uneven and look weird.

If it's all jagged and what not, if I were you I'd get a touch up paint bottle and just brush or pen it on. It wont look great but it'll stop that OMG WTF reaction when people see your car. Then body shop when you can afford it or if your insurance is going to cover it. I know up here if your car gets keyed or what not it's not supposed to effect your insurance as it wasn't a moving violation.

since im in school for collsion and body repair. the only thing you could do to make it look decent is. wetsand easy with 1000 then move to 1500 and then tape off the part that doesnt need to be painted. ge the color match gm can and spray it. light coat at first. medium coat 2nd and light coat 3rd then repeat with clean. it wont look great but wont look as bad. the only was to make it look good again is to have the whole bumper repainted.

Yeah, just go to your local GM dealer, and ask for some touch up paint for your car. Before you go in, write down the last 8 digits of your vin. Then just give them that. It should cost between 12-14 bucks for a small bottle.

It's no problem. Do you have pics of the damage?

And remember to just paint the parts that doesn't have paint.

Unless the damage exposed bare metal, I wouldn't bother.
