Antenna delete
Any one removed the am/fm radio antenna entirely? I'm not looking for a shorty, and I'm not looking to spend several hundred getting a body shop to totally remove it, just something simple to cover up the threads and make it looks somewhat decent. Can I buy a plastic piece from the hardware store or something for this? Not really sure what I'm looking for - is there a technical term for it? Any one done this - any rust or anything from the metal hanging out there without the antenna? Just curious, thanks for the help!

I took a tire cap,
Then took a hot glue gun and put a little inside the cap,
Then stuck the cap on. I have yet to have a problem with it "melting" off.
You loose radio almost entirley, but, if you use something else, it works great.

you could get a power antenna kit, it won't totally hide the antenna, but it would look a little smaller than the valve stem cap cover when its down, then you would be able to run it up when you want the radio.
you could pull the whole thing out and use a plastic plug like they do with police cars when they sell them off to the public.
best way to do it would be spend the few hundred bucks and have a body shop fill the hole and repaint the area.

I took a stock antenna off of a silverado, they have a hex base instead of a round one. I cut it off right at the base of the mast, leaving me about a 1 1/2 inch hex nut basically. Spray paint it black or whatever color you want, thread it back on when dry. Instant free shorty antenna. I may have one laying around somewhere, I made a couple for some people, one guy didn't like losing his radio too much around his house, so he gave it back. If I still have it, i'll post up a pic.

I did something similar with my antenna. Back when someone stole the stocker, I quickly spray painted a nut and an acorn nut, and put them on. It looked very similar to the valve cap, but it was a shiney, gloss black. Recpetion was still pretty good, I still got most of the stations, which wasnt that bad. But I eventually got a short antennea, so ehh...

fair enough. what you do is fill the cap with milk. set it out in the sun till it gets gooey and nasty, fill it up with milk a few more times, then plop it down on the stud. works every time.
get a tube of silicone caulk from the hard ware store, the stuff for doing bath tubs. they are a few bucks that should do the trick. maybe some roofing tar, but it might be a little messy.
