what kind of "special paint"? any specific names (like duplicolor ____s)? and anyone know where i can get a door panel like ours to practice on?

ive wanted a black interior for my balt for so long....one of the few cheap looking parts of the LS interior (and the lack of power windows/locks of course)

you could always use vinyl dye, when done properly it lasts and doesnt look half bad
http://www.amazon.com/VHT-SP942-Viny.../dp/B0006HPL9W

http://www.gideontech.com/content/articles/202/1 <-- decent how-to, although for computer parts. same concept applies though

Please please don't do this! I ve taken mine off a few times now, and it s quite simple. Tools needed: thin bladed flat headed screwdriver, window crank tool(I got mine at autozone for 3$), Phillips screwdriver.

There are three screws you first need to remove. One is behind a trim piece inside the door handle. The other two are under another trim piece in the grab handle/inset in the cloth insert. Once you pull those three screws, pop off the mirror adjustment trim pieces. They re just held on with clips. Lastly, use the window crank tool to pop off the cranks. It will be a bit tricky the first couple of times, but just be patient and take your time. There is a thin spring C clip that you will actually catch with the tool and pop loose, when that falls out, you just pull the window crank off. THEN you can just pull the door panel off. Start at the bottom and work your way up, but remember, at the top there are no clips, so slide it UP once you all the bottom and side clips free.

Now onto the door panels situation. I would love to do a color change on mine to black. I don't have the extra cash right now, but if I did I would start calling local scrap yards too see if there were any junk 'balts in with good interiors. Or, you could go the SEM vinyl dye route.

Ill have to ask my painter again what it is and where he got it. He had to repaint part of my center console when he did the painted the trim around the shifter for me.

Does anybody have any interior pictures of black interior? I have the light grey interior and want to do make the conversion to black. so much cleaner looking and nice imo. and also it doesnt get dirty as fast like the grey.

i think i may have to give that VHT dye a shot. They make good products and its a hell of a lot cheaper than buying new panels. I looked the cost up online and they are like 167 a piece

the manual window handle tool is simple. its this big flat thing and you just slide it between the door panel and the window handle and push and the thing will pull right off. all it does is remove the clip that holds the handle on so you can pull it out.

You can get them at any automotive parts store.
