yes they are an option. it's a personal preference wether you like the 18" polished or not. i myself want a all blacked out car except for the wheels, and you can make them look like chrome if you pollish them even more.

It's honestly hard to tell from the pictures, but I do think they're the polished 18s. Either way, it's definitely an SS/SC, regardless of whether it's a wheel swap or the polished 18s from the factory.

Agreed, I thought that from the time I saw the polished 17s on the NA SS's. It's like ghetto bling or something...just doesn't look good on the car.

The high-polished wheels became optional in the latter part of the 2006 model year. There are 2006 SS/SC that were ordered from the factory with high-polished aluminum wheels. These were a no-cost option, not a fortune like some of you are claiming!

As a side note, there are no "chrome" wheels available on the Cobalt SS or SS/SC. High-polish aluminum and chrome wheels are different things. High polished wheels are exactly what the name says. Chrome wheels are plated!

You wouldn't want GM Crome anyways.

GM only uses a 2 step crome process. They leave a step completely out!!

Thats the reason GM Crome wheels always seem to flake within 2 years.

GM no longer uses this process as chrome GM wheels actually have a plastic cover over the wheel thatt he "chrome" is applied to now. Take a look at something like a G6 with chrome wheels and feel behind the spoke...it's a plastic cover over the actual aluminum rim.

Not to mention what others have said, these are polished, so there's nothing to flake off.

I wouldn't say no cost option, but option code NW1 18" Polished aluminum wheels were a $395.00 msrp option and 347.60 invoice cost. my car was made on 05/30/06 so i'm no sure about other dates.

2006 18" polished wheel option

yep, it is a $395 option for the 06' SS/SC which is not in the 06' brochure. I did the 0% deal on the last day and had to take what was on the lot.... So, I had the option of black or silver w/o the sunroof or sunburst orange w/ the roof (can't live w/o a sunroof) and the car had the $395 polished 18" option already on the car. No G85's ...darn!
I am very happy w/ them as have a nice mirror finish. They clean up really easily and I don't have to worry about the peeling issue on the gunmetal painted wheels.
I am just happy to have factory 18" (who would have thought you could get a car w/ factory 18" for under 22K). I dread replacing the tires at cost for that size... oh, well... just the price of having 18's.

I like em'..I think they would be too bling if they were actually chromed, but they're polished....I'd spend the extra money on them

The high polished 18” wheels option was added late in the 2006 production year.
The only thing that makes it rare is the fact that the option was added late in the year.

When I picked up my 06, I had to choose between the two wheels. I picked the car with the darker wheels because they looked better on a sunburst orange car (IMO).

Nice car nevertheless have fun!
