ebay headlight

so one of two headlights i won off ebay finally arrived today and i have yet another question for .net. the description of the light said that there was a black smudge on the lens, i see it but it feels like more of a scratch and that the back had a small crack. i found that and it's not the biggest thing in the world so no worries there. the lens however has a bunch of scuff marks and tiny scratches in it, obviously from a wrecked cobalt. my question is, how can i get rid of the marks? is there even a way? here's a picture that i took holding the light, the area circled in red is the area in question...

so it's a pretty good size area. i'm getting these lights to tear apart and paint. i didn't want to mess with my cars current lights in case i messed up taking them apart/putting them back together, no headlights is a big no no. so if these turn out ok, i definately want to use them but i could do without the damage. any info will be greatly appreciated, thanks

Your local auto store should have some cut-polishing compound (probably in the car cleaning section) that should remove most scuffs and scratches by following the directions on the label (as they differ between products).

I smoked a 2x4 (that flew out of some morons truck) at 130Kph with my Caprice, and it hit the headlight and cornering lense. 10 minutes of buffing and cut-polishing, and bam! It looked like new! (abiet with some slight depth scratches; i did hit a 2x4 at 130K)
