Painted brake drums

Just got around to doing this today. Since I got rims, the rear drums were just looking hideous. So I busted out the tools and painted them today.

Before with just the rust knocked off.

Painted.

With the wheel back on.

I painted them matte aluminum to make them look similar to the front calipers since I didn't want to paint those right now. It looks a lot better.

If I paint my brake drums black to get rid of the rust, would you look at that as rice?

Yeah mine we're rough. I couldn't believe how bad they were for only being a 4 year old car. But I knew I didn't want to paint the front stock calipers cause I figured it would be attempting to make them look fancier then the stock cheap ones they are. And there is a lot of black on the car already so I want sure that I wanted to put even more black on it or how it would look with black drums and matte silver front calipers so that's why I went with the color I did for the rears. But I'm really pleased with how it turned out and how simple it was to do. Start to finish only took me a couple of hours to do both sides.

I used Duplicolor caliper paint and no clear coat. I just knocked the rust down, shot it with brake cleaner/degreaser, then put 3 coats of paint down. It seemed pretty glossy and smooth with just the paint and said it should hold up without it.

If I have any problems with longevity of it I will redo them and do a clear over them though.

i think what woulda made it look much better would be if you put WD40 on the inside of the drums, where the shoes and the drum touch

How would that have made it look much better? It's realistically not even an area that anyone is going to see. The area that's painted it the area that people are going to see and notice and in my opinion it looks fine the way it is.
