Painting the headlamp surrounds
Painting the headlamp surrounds
My plan is to pick up a set of OEM replacement type headlamps like the ones on cobalt-addiction where the surround areas that are normally chrome have been blacked out. Then I want to take those black areas and paint them red to match the car. Before I get going down this course, I wanted to know if anyone has tried this and if there are things I need to know before I get started.
Does anyone have a picture of this? I did use the search feature and all I can find is flat black.

Did you just scuff the chrome and paint or did you buy aftermarket headlamps prior to painting? At first glance at looks like a simple project, but I've had lots of simple looking projects turn out to be not so simple.
it was fairly simple i baked them peeled the plastic part off. then the chrome peice comes off with three star head bolt. and Yes scuffed them with thousand grit primed then painted black then wet sanded with two thousand then cleared. took me a day. my little saying you have to be 2 percent smarter than the peice of equipment your working with. Little advice take our time do it right and nice caue think everytime you back into a spot people will look at them light cause there not chrome anymore.
