Here in Ohio the tint law is 50% on front and back windows. But it is 50% reading on the meter. That is because all new cars have a slight factory tint to them if they have A/C. The windshield can have a strip of tint on it that is no lower than 6" basically. It can't go lower than the writing that is on the edge of the windshield. I worked at car audio places that also tinted windows for years, plus my brother is a cop here in Ohio and I've also had my share of tint tickets here when I worked at those places. All the vehicles I had at the time had 5% limo tint all the way around on them.

Exact Illinois law states that you can have non-reflective tint on the top six inches of your windshield. Back side and rear windows can be as dark as you want. NO FRONT SIDE TINT IS ALLOWED.

I can't imagine not having tint on my car. I would move to a different state if mine didn't allow it

In PA, you're not allowed any tint on the front door windows PERIOD ( except fo the medical cases ) that is not factory equipment. The back doors & 3/4's are allowed, but not much at all. THe SUV / Truck / Minivan privacy glass is the only dark stuff out there allowed, and you USED to be able to tint the back one as dark as you liked, providing you had both side mirrors. No different than driving a box truck. I've heard they've changed that and now only allow a small percentage over stock.

If I'm wrong on any of this, you other PA people correct me.

I had my Silverado from TX up here and a local LEO pulled me over and gave me 5 days to show up there without the tint. Only reason I got that was becuase I still had the TX drivers license and just had got the PA plates. Otherwise... no warning... would've gotten the ticket. Good thing I didn't tell him I knew the tint was illegal.

The kicker was... it was not dark at all, and the woman in front of me... ( he was sitting next to me on a motorcycle ) rolled right thru the stopsign. But I"M the one breaking the law.

Don't get me wrong. I didn't argue with him, and I removed it and never put it back on. I just was ticked he chose ME instead of her.

If you want to risk running illegal tint ( regardless of location ) then you have to accept the consequences with getting caught.
