Question about Painted Headlights

Hey everyone, I had a quick question about the Painted headlights. I'm planning on ripping mine apart and doing the project this weekend but I was wondering if there's a reason why everyone seems to use Ultra-flat or flat paint to paint their headlights. (besides that mistakes and inconsistencies don't show as easily).

I thought something glossier would look a lot nicer so I picked up some Krylon Fusion Satin spray paint. If I prep them well will I run into any major problems using the glossier paint? Thanks for any feedback.

I used flat black on mine just cuz i thought that would look good on my silver balt.... and it did. But tomorrow im painting the headlights on my black sc using Krylon Fusion Glossy black paint. Hopefully it comes out good, i already tested it on my bowtie and the paint came out perfect and stuck great with no prep... sick.

Awesome! That is exactly what I needed to know and see. I have a Black 2.4SS so I'm hoping that the glossier pant will help it pop a bit more

Wish I had a decent cam bro.. I'll try my camera phone later... it usually takes pretty good pics.... I colormatched sunburst orange.... and there are no defects showing... maybe cuz I am UBER **** and made sure everythign was flawless. My lights just survived the nastiest thunder/hailstorm i have ever seen in my life without a drop of condensation on teh inside

I'm curious, why would I need to clear coat the paint that is inside the headlight like DallasCobalt posted? I understand that sunfading could be an issue, but my car stays garaged when I'm not at work and I don't live in the sunbelt.

Could you shine some light on your post here Cobalt_SSTuner? (no pun intended)

^^^ just a protection. Clear adds a sheen and protects the paint. why take the chance that something flakes and you have to take it apart just cuz you didnt clear coat it?

That's what I figured. Has there been any reports of problems with the fusion paint flaking off on headlights (I'm planning on prepping the chrome plastic first to try to avoid any such problems)

I basically think that the outside lens reflects light so well, that you can't tell the difference between flat and gloss black unless you really stare and get on it.
