question on painting dash

to anyone that might be able to help me, i'm new around here so if there is already a thread about this my apologies. i just got an 05 cobalt this week with only 24,000 miles on it. i wanted to start doing a few things do it but the first thing i wanted to do was a little bit of painting work to the dash around the cd player and and such. I have included a picture of a cobalt that i saw on cardomain.com that was painted black and yellow so that you can see somewhat what i wanted to do with mine. i just want to pop out the middle piece, not the one that is painted mostly yellow. my question is how do i get the piece around the cd player and heat/air condition controls out without breaking the plastic? thanks for your help.
