So I want my halos to be brighter, what kind of bulb do i need to replace the existing ones? (just the halo's not the HID's)

ccfl halos are ur answer....... wait, i thought 3rd gens came with ccfls? maybe im wrong... well if not there's a how to on here on swapping the led halo's for ccfls...

 

well honestly i dont know much about them, whats the difference between ccfl and led halos?

 

the standard halo works by having a plastic ring which illuminates when an LED along the base of the ring shines and the plastic carries the light around and lights up. CCFL halos are like mini round fluorescent bulbs where the entire ring emits light, being much brighter. I couldn't tell you the halo size, but you can easily pick up halos on ebay. And no, the 3rd gens don't come with CCFLs. Only the second gens do.

 

holy christ iv been wanting to change out my LED's in my 3rd gens for some orange LED halos or orange CCFL's, whatever I can find, and i just done have the measurements on the halos and dont feel like busting them open to find out, was hoping the OP knew but no. Some1 bust open gen 3's and measure the halo's! I PM'd 3B spec but never got anything back. dont wanna bust em open to reseal and bust open again when halos show up

And 1st and 3rd gen are LED halos. You can swap to CCFL with minor modifications im sure.

 

Idk why, but the halo size for 3rd gens is always asked, but no one ever opens the damn things! Anyways, I think they are the same size as the first gens, the rest of the components of the lights are the same, so I would assume they are, but I could be wrong.

 

yea, i wish some1 had like a set layin around, or got into a car accident and had a busted set or something. you know theres one out there and the person just didnt see this yet

 

haha actually I do have an extra set laying around, maybe I'll crack them open one day when I get some free time. I could do a CCFL swap, put new OEM lenses on, and sell them.

I have the 1st Gen. Healights with CCFL Halos in them. They are badass too!

Has anyone found anything else out about this? I have 3rd gens too and really want to make the halo brighter! I am starting to think maybe making a bigger hole in the bottom where the rubber grommet is for the halos and then just replacing the grommet with a bigger one... just big enough to get my hands in at the led...

 

These are the outer measurements for the halos in the gen 3s I believe

guess i will be doing this too, i didnt do enuf homework on LEDs and CCFLs and now im kinda annoyed they arentt bright enuf. thought it was a power issue, definitely not the case here.

Yup those are the right measurements for Gen3's. I got my CCFL's from 3bspec. It's super easy to change them.

 

is the sealant the same for the housings? like, having to heat it to get the sealant loose?
and yeah i saw a how to, hopeful it will help.
i thought about getting my halos in green, kinda like dark on green

 

what are you guys talking about that 3rd gens dont have ccfl halos? 3rd gens come in led AND ccfl...here are the ccfl ones eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
