shorty antenna painting?

Just got my shorty from antennax on ebay and it looks OK....it is much blacker than the base part of the antenna that is attached to the car....i'm assuming others had this issue? Does it fade over time? Or did you just paint it? Did you paint the base attached to the car also? If so, what color, and what type of paint? Thanks in advance!

Oh yea, and if you did paint, anyone got pics?

yea thats the one i got...but i hate the color difference between the antenna (glossy rubber look) and the base of the antenna of the car (glossy metal look)...would clear coating it or painting some particular color help this?`
