Shorty stubby antenna or delete mod
Shorty stubby antenna or delete mod
I was thinking about deleting the antenna from my 09, or going with a shorty antenna. What thread size do the 09s have? Is it 6mm or 8mm? If I'm deleting the antenna, I thought about buying an aluminum acorn nut to fit over the stud or a vacuum cap assuming the cap can handle UV radiation and ozone.
Its a pain in the ass to shop for shorty antenna's for our car. Primarily because there are next to none to begin with. The Ark antenna is the most appealing one in my opinion. Your other option is the DIY way of chopping off your existing antenna. And for that you'd have to search these forums for.

How is the vacuum cap faring against UV radiation and ozone?
The Ark is $44 shipped - it does look nice but eBay has a bunch of 5-6mm shorties of a similar design for $12-$13 shipped. There's no justification for the $44 price.

i got mine form modern performance, can't remember the price but i believe they are cheaper than Ark. i think they are almost an inch shorter. they look great but don't expect to listen to am/fm radio(does anyone anymore)

Can you post the eBay link or the seller? 07-up seems to use a very odd (7mm) size that doesn't work with most of the stubby antennae.
The MPX antenna looks great, how well does the powdercoat finish stand up against rocks and UV radiation? Will it start to look speckled silver or start to fade white under the sun?
I thought about why GM didn't offer a shorty antenna from the factory - there would be liability issues if someone slipped and fell onto the stubby antenna. The longer antenna is flexible and won't hurt anyone. Now, if they used a rubber shorty antenna, like the XM fin, it would reduce the liability concerns. Just my 2 cents.

i have had my mpx on fro about 6 months, the balt is my daily driver(120-150 miles a day) it still looks fine. the only thing i noticed was after i had it on for about a week i had a black residue from the shorty on my car paint, so i cleand the car and the shorty and haven't had any problems since.
I just bought a shorty antenna off ebay.. It's 13 inches made by AntennaX for 9.99
The one that specifically says for a Cobalt simply screwed right on my car.. I don't have pics of mine.. But here are the one's from ebay:

I love it!

I just installed the ARK shorty today. I love it. Still get great reception and I got in on the antenna and Strut brace deal ($130 shipped for both). Normally it's ~$180 for both so I consider it a great deal.
I just installed the Ark on my 09 SS/TC, it looks sharp and I still get all the radio stations. I kind of wish there was an antenna delete that looked as good. I bought a UPR delete for my Mustang GT and that looks even sharper with any antennas sticking out.
Just cut it yourself, save the money... I did it today took about 15 min. Take it off, mark where you want it cut, use a vicegrip to hold it, cut it and twist off the ball from the top of it and then grind down your new cut piece for the ball to sit snug on. give er some spray paint and put it back on...
