So PISSED on eyelids

Well, i bought 2 cans of GM paint so i could do my headlights, eyelids... anyway i masked it off sprayed it, cleared it, went to take it off the next day and it peeled right off like a cheap sticker. WHAT THE ****!??? i didnt think i had to sand my lights to get it to stick. how did everyone do theirs? it didnt stick at all. do i have to sand before i spray the lights? the how to didnt show any sanding. what the hell is up, i spent 30.00 and 2 days of my time to do this, and its for nothing.

I wouldnt use 400 grit, I say 800 should do just fine, you dont need to sand much

i think it might just be the plastic. i have the same cans of paint and i read them over and over again and i forgot that it is "touch up" paint yanno. therefor mainly used for metals aka the body.

Yea but that paint will work fine on any surface if its prepped properly. With some light sanding he should have no problems

or you could first put down a coat of primer...then use paint...

and once your done painting, take the tape off, and let it dry.

I did the same, and no problems for me. You should peel the tape off when the paint is still kinda tacky, so it'll be able to come apart smoothly and stick to the plastic. If you didn't tear up the edges too much, try using pieces of black pin striping to make the edge look better.

i would go the light sanding route, then i used self etching primer, GM match paint and finally clear coated... and the turned out awesome.

sanding + adhesion promotor.
that headlight plastic is WAY to smooth for paint to stick to.

btw, dont wait to take tape off,
the paint is connected on your tape, to the paint on your headlight, and if you allow that to cure, it wont *break* cleanly.
you need to remove any taping as soon as possible.
a razorblade can help keep the line even cleaner.

you dont need to sand if you you a primer. the primer will stick to the plastic as long as you do it in light coats. then once you get a few light coats of primer down, then use your paint and your clear coat. Once you do your last coat of clear, take the tape off right away.
