Those who used an enamel paint to paint their calipers!!!!???

Ok so i made a thread and people posted to the regard that the only way i can get color matched calipers was if i get an enamel paint from a auto parts store and apply it that way... I even saw pictures that they posted so i was like hell yea

I got the paint expensive non the less, and the paint is turning out like ****, easy to see brush marks, clumping of paint, since its a metalic its coming out uneven as ****.... I mean i really dont know what to do

If you were gonna color match it you should have gotten a rattle can from GM and called it a day.

Sounds like you need to take them off the car and get them sprayed with the enamel... otherwise the metallic is gonna look like crap. maybe a personal spray gun or bring em to a shop...

heat vs GM color matched paint = chipping. The GM paint is gonna hold up too well

Odd. Mine held up no problem. What you should have done was drive the **** outa it and heat the brakes up REAL good. Then pull the tires and hit the calipers with Brake Clean, then spray em real good. Let that coat dry and hit em again! Repeat about 6 more times. 1 can from GM can do the whole car but it should be empty when your done. After that take it out and heat em up really good again. Thats what I did and the Sunburst orange lasted on my Cavi for years till I traded it no issues and then my Cobalt lasted over a year till I traded it again no issues.

I tried one of the caliper painting kits and it started chipping within 6 months.

Luckily the body shop repainted them for free when I got my car repaired and they look ****.

Take a plastic grocery bag and put it over the rotor and tuck it in so it stops the overspray!

I'm a firm believer in the complete opposite. Spray looks worse, and brush lasts SO MUCH longer and it is glossier. Of course you have to be good at it or else you can make it look like crap either way, but I'm really good at it.

yeah it's not rocket science. lol just cover everything you don't want sprayed.

I did mine almost two years ago and I just now got a little chip in one caliper. So I have to redo that one but all else is good.

If u have thick paint that is able to be brushed on . That paint you got Max is forumlated to sprayed from a gun , its to thin to apply correctly with a brush . If u still have some left , the paint shop you got the piant from should also sell small glass jars and a aerosal canister that screws on top so u can spray it without having a paint gun . Use a good rattle can self etching primer or the 1500* engine paint primer and then spray the orange paint paint . The most important part of making the paint last is the prep . Scrub the hell out the calipers with an old toothbrush and brake cleaner and I would sand with 400 grit sand paper , then prime , then paint . With the piant do a few thin coats , then the last coat do a heavy coat to smooth it out .

jus take the calipers off and spray paint them with 500 or 1200 degree ceramic engine enamel from the auto parts store. no brush marks, no fade,no blothes, no drips, and no scrapes and i did mine well over a year ago and they still look fresh, the brake dust jus wipes right off.
