This is a zombie thread. Unless there has been some crazy recent new tint law, you can have it in IL.

1. Up to 35% in the Rear/up to 35% front
2. 35-30% in the rear/up to 50% front
3. IF YOU HAVE BELOW 30% TINT IN THE REAR, YOU CAN NOT HAVE FRONT TINT If you have an MPV, which include but are not limited to, SUVs, Station Wagons, minivans, Toasters, etc., and said MPV has factory installed privacy glass (smoked), you are allowed to have up to 50% tint in front.

However. Chicago still doesn't want to obey that this is law, and are still giving tickets left and right, even if your car is parked. I've never had a problem, but a lot of people have...

Canadian Rules by Province (for us who spell colour with a U)

ex: 70% = 70% transmittance (fairly light window tint)
no tint = no film allowed
any = any film darkness allowed

Front Windows/Side Windows/Back Window

British Columbia: no tint/any/any
Alberta: no tint/any/any
Saskatchewan: no tint/any/any
Manitoba: 50%/35%/35%
Ontario: 20%/any/any
Quebec: 70%/any/any
New Brunswick: 20%/any/any
Prince Edward Island: no tint/any/any
Nova Scotia: no tint/no tint/no tint
Newfoundland: 20%/any/any

updated: October 2011. Enjoy!

For everyone too damn stupid to know how to work a computer, if you highlight stuff it makes it easier to read for your granny eyes. Or put your computer into high contrast mode ROFL

FYI... Most if not all cars come standard with 70% tint. If you have untinted windows in your cobalt you actually have 70%
