Why wouldn't you want to spray it?

The valve cover can not be painted by brush that I know of.

You need high temp paint if you're going to do it or the exhaust side will start to peel and burn off in no time. I would recommend looking into buying a valve cover that's already powdercoated. That will ensure a lifetime of good looks. No offence, but I doubt you know what you're doing when you call the valve cover a value cover. Modern Performance is a supporting vendor on here and I'm pretty sure they sell color matched powdercoated valve covers...

not to be a dick bro, but did you really just call someone out on a typo? just cuz he mistyped doesn't mean he doesn't know what he is going. look at his sig... header, exhaust and the works... if he put those in himself, i am pretty sure he can paint.

You're not being a dick, you're just misinformed. He mispelled it twice. It wasn't a typo. He just admitted that he doesn't know how to take the valve cover off. I'm just trying to help him understand that painting isn't the best way to go...

Um spray painting it DOES last just fine and does flake off. The valve cover DOES NOT get hot enough to make it burn off. I've used GM color match spray paint on MANY engine parts on my OWN cars over the years with perfect results. You need to prep the surface properly and it lasts just fine. Hell it lasts just fine on brake calipers so you know it'll hold up to a valve cover.

How to remove it is relatively simple, all you need is a 1/4 inch drive socket set and extension. All the bolts are 10mm just remove them all and remove the valve cover. Use total prep or another like brand and then a good self etching primer and then the paint followed by the clear coat and it'll look fan-damn-tastci for years and years to come.

Too bad your not local or I'd be glad to help you.

I keep forgetting you guys don't have the heat pump in your engine bay. You wouldn't be saying it doesn't get hot if you felt the heat in my engine compartment during the summer.

Needless to say, prep is the most important part. And aparently the GM spray cans will work and hold up. Do you still have the heat shield w/ the extrude honed manifold? That'll help keep things cool too if you do...

Yes and all you need to do is give them your VIN# and they order you the matching spray paint and you can also order the spray clear coat as well.

Now what are you planning to do paint the heat sheild too? Now that will get get too hot so you may not want to.

The parts department carries GM Color Matched cans and you can get the paint code off your car. I think it's either in the door jam or on the trunk lid. Jack, you know where there's a list?

I was asking about the heat shield because it will keep the heat away from the cover. I don't think he plans on painting it...

Like I said snug them up good and you'll be fine. Use 1/4 inch drive so you don't go crazy.

Jackalope, that is one pretty engine. I think I need to get a few more cans to make mine look that pretty. I didn't realize you had a 2.2. Do you have SAI as well? We got one guy up in Maine saying that the dealer has the ability to delete it. Have you seen the thread? What you think?

The 2.2 and 2.4 use the same intake so I can see how you'd mix them up. The tell tale part is the coil packs, on the 2.2 it has the one big one that takes up the whole center while the 2.4 uses individual coil packs bolted to the VC. Also the intake is different but its a more subtle difference. The coil packs jump out at you tho.
