I am assuming, you can only measure the windows that go up and down. I bought the car used so I am not sure if it is all the same or not. Looks like it though.
So are you saying if the windows don't go up and down, you can't measure and therefore can't hand out a ticket. (not saying that you actually would)

Yea the only tint meters I have ever dealt with fit over the top of the window. So it has to be rolled down some. Who knows though there could be something new out lol.
heard that. 35% IS legal in IL now? ive been researching the law like a ninja this past month, going to get it done next check, and i can't make heads or talks of everything with tint % and light transmission %. Ive got the factory tinted glass with 70% light transmission, which i assume is 30% tint... does that mean i could only tint the extra 5% down? because if thats the case, im saving the money and buying springs...
2) That is incorrect, or at least not the way it was explained to me. Tint and laws read in Visible Light Transmission (VLT), meaning the amount of light they allow to pass. 35% VLT means 65% of visible light is blocked, while 5% VLT means 95% of visible light is blocked. For example, I live in GA. Here is a link to GA Tint Law.
This isn't always perfectly on-target, but here is a link to help find other state's laws.
^^correct. cops measure by sticking something on your partially rolled down window..that will tell you how much light passes through your tint. my rx8 happened to be 12% ha.
and whatever % of tint you get is how much light is allowed through.
ex: I have 35% tint..meaning 35% of light is allowed through and the other 65% is blocked.

Why can't MI legalize front window tint?!!!
After a while I got fed up with the tickets/court dates, and just getting pulled over so often. Granted I did have 5% all the way around.
I'm planning on going 35% all the way around including the front windshield if I can find a optometrist to give me a script. If I can't I'm sticking with no tint at all. Haven't been pulled over once since I took mine off.

didnt think about an optometrist, but wouldnt want to get pulled over to have to flash the papers. that could turn into multiple tickets.
and thanks for the confirmation on the IL window tint law. you are correct, i had my windows tinted 2 weeks ago, have been meaning to upload pictures but the weather here has been terrible.
so yeah i have a sedan with 35 tint all the way around, - the front if you want an idea of what to expect. its pretty dark, but you can still see into the car, even at night. wish it was a little darker with the black wheels, but have had several compliments already. overall, im happy with the job.
