24 hours of lemons

24 Hours of Lemons - Home Page

I'm thinking of entering a race for the fall of 2012. Somewhere on the east coast. Anyone ever heard of this before or possibly raced in it? Sounds like an awesome time.

Go up on the Rocky Mountain SOLO website (rmsolo.org) and ask for information. Multiple SCCA locals have entered and run in a couple "24 hours of Lemons"...

If I had the roughly $1500 or so it would take for a team to run it I would. It would be a blast.

I'm going to pitch the idea to my advertising department at work to see if they will "sponsor" a car lol. I think this would be a blast

I've always wanted to do this. Chump Car world series is another option. I have heard that for the first time it's usually easiest to just buy a "seat" on a team and go drive.

Yea. You might want to look into what its going to cost for a helmet, firesuit, and proper safety gear, then look into "buying" a seat in someone else's car before you go about building your own. Its a $1500-$3000 investment to get the car, and get it to all the safety specs.

Final cost for a full team is around 5K all said and done with safety gear and all materials. That does not include any labor if you don't do it yourself. Most of the stuff can be reused so the first time buy in would be around 5k

Holler if you need a driver I've driven most of the east coast tracks. Although with Lemons, it's more a race of attrition. You don't wanna push these hunks of junks too fast

If I can present my case for doing this to my owners that its worth doing, I'm probably going to put a thread on the progress.

Likewise... If you need a driver thats also skilled at twirling wrenches, depending on location, id be interested. Does ChumpCar/ Lemons require a one piece drivers suit, or can you get away with a multi piece?

No idea. Haven't looked into the suit requirements. I've been trying to figure out what all to do with the car first. Fox I planned to use my acura in the race. Not sure though if I wanna do a full race conversion with it. I'd have to remove all the glass and stuff along with the roll cage.

You realize that you basically have to have a race car for these events. And they can destroy your Lemons car if they want to. You cant do anything about it, heh. Your gonna have to have a glass less roll caged, real race seat/harnesses, fire suppression, etc.

I guy I work with is shooting to have his car ready for the mid april race at New Jersey Motorsports Park. It's a late 80's rx-7. I know they just finished up the roll cage and installing the seat and some other odds and ends.

So after doing quite a bit of research, I have half a Power Point done. You will need a one piece race suit by the looks of things.

Looking at Mustangs, Camaros and Miatas for the car. One of the guys I work with know hows to weld TIG so hes on board. Going to present the project to the owners a week and a half. Hopefully they will approve it because the race is in Oct in New Hampshire.
