People under estimate how wicked these little cars are out on the track. Your right, many people here are into street "roll" racing and 1/4 times. Nothing wrong with the 1/4 at all, its just this car has plenty more to offer.
I have yet to make the drive up there, I am sure the Cobalt would well in its class up there too. Took the Cobalt down the 1/4 one Friday and that was enough. This car is NOT happy down the strip unlike my 03 Cobra than can break 11's any day of the week and twice on Sunday. It's too hard on it with all the gear banging, a nice flowing roadcoase is way easier on the drivetrain IMO

Just looking through how you placed...

What class does this car fall in? GT1 is what I saw, and I take it you are in GT3 because you are running street tires?

Amazing course indeed. I am only on my second year and still taking classes and such. Funny cause a s2k driver called me out for cheating too! He had my car inspected. Brought him over a gaterade and joked about it. Pretty nice guy, he just couldnt understand why I was passing his s2k in the twisties... HAHA

Its about 40 min from my door to the pits...

79.9 is max for GT1 assuming your are on premium (non threaded) R Comps like the BFG R1 , V710 etc.
With -10 pips for street tires I dropped two classes and have one or two pips to spare I think.
Glad to see you are doing the School! You will need a low 1,38 to beat Jonathan Weir (if he is on premiums) or Dave Barker in GT1 - that is a pretty fast and dangerous pace!!

I like to be competitive in Solosprint. It is easy to make a car go fast in general BUT staying within class limits and win is a little harder.
So it all depends what Solosprint is going to do next year with this car, GT1 is a fast class already and there is now way the Cobalt is going to keep up in SGT3. I honestly do not think the Stage kit will be worth the 6 pips...

the good thing about my auto-x club is i dont have to classify anything. its a bmw club so all non-bmws are in the same class no matter the car or mods like theres me a ss/sc and theres a zr1 all in the same class lol. unlike the bmw class where it does matter.

Man thats awesome, I am so in love with that track.

Yeah get used to it you drive a "POS cobalt" haha.

I think it will take awhile for people to get used to it.

1:31 is fast on that track.... hmm.

I will see how it goes on the saturday and how comfortable I am with it.

I do not get the tune thing, so its 3 pips because we flash the ECU and another 3 pips because we are adding boost.

Seems a little much, although a cold air intake looks like a "free" mod, so really you take the 6 pips and you can be plus 30-40 hp.

1:31 is for RACE CARS and for them that is pretty slow... 1:28 is fast.
Full interior licenced streetcars like my Cobra can do low 1:34 (have records), I average 1:35 and Krispy (our Solosprint champ) will run in the 1:32's with his 02 Z06 streetcar.

I dont know why I read your first post as 1:31, as thats about what my friend was running in his pullied tuned GT500 on slicks.

1:38 seems reasonable, in my 97 Cobra last year I was in the mid/low 1:40's as I recall.

How good are the stock tires for this kind of sruff? This is my first "performance" car, and only the 2nd one ive even drove. My best friend has an 08 sti, (pics posted in my images<<<<) it seems to handle just as good as my car, but i notice if i ride with uim, and we do turns near the same speed, his seems to have some squeal when mine is silent, they both seem planted though. I just wonder if i could push it harder because my tires have about 5000 miles and are probably 2/3 worn out already and he has about 12k and about2/3 worn also, so clearly ss/tc tires are a bit softer. I guess my question is, how good are the stock tires compaired to replacements? I was looking into replacing them with fuzion zri once these are worn out, but i dont want to do a HUGE sacrafice in performance, but i would like to see more mileage from them...

My Nitto's had to be flipped on the rims for the next Solosprint Event so I decided to mount the Conti's for a while and try them out. If it stops raining I will be taking her to TMP in the morning June19 http://www.torontomotorsportspark.co...x.html?p=flash
for a customer appreciation day with my good friend Sean Hylland. He wants to entertain some of his GT500 Super Snake customers and I may need to do some instructing, so I have no idea how much track time I will get with the Cobalt.
Hopefully I should be able to let you guys know how the Conti's stack up to the Nitto's after this weekend.
As for the ZRi's, I ran a set on my Cobra and found them to be quite good for a high performance street tire when fresh (less than two yrs) , decent grip on autocross and ok for up to 4 hot laps (with my kind of driving) before they get greasy. They also had GREAT wear.
But the new max performance stuff is just SO much better (wear not so good) in terms of grip and feel it is unreal and did I mention 10 hot laps is not a problem. hehe

Uhhh... pullied GT500 in the 1:31's? That is VERY impressive, do you have records?

No this was at a random track day there....

He does have some susupension work done springs, dampers, sway bars, end links and a couple other things. He also races in the Grand Am series, so he is a very experienced driver.

Very scary though....

We went to TMP and I took the Cobalt out for a few laps on the original Conti's for the first time. The Cobalt was still plenty quick, just don't push too hard. I found some "chunking" accross the thread after two or three sloppy laps.
But honestly not too bad at all...

Check out the car I was up against!

Event 5 of the Solosprint Championship was on Mosport GP this weekend. July6.
We had 4 cars go off into the walls with one car totalled completely! That surely made me think twice about going all out, but still managed to pull a 6.0 second lead for the weekend in my class.

update on my first post.
