i dont do anything for block heater. tried to get one installed the first month i had it got a call back about 4 hours later saying there would be no charge for my oil change or the block heater....the block heater because tehre was not place to mount one.. the oil pan heaters seem to be popular though.

i called Gm all pissed because i couldnt get a block heater in winnipeg. they basically told me that its synthetic oil and that there should be absolutely no issue and it was tested in sub -40temps... how much of that i believe is another story but i got to say its never so much as sounded like it wasnt gonna kick over and has never run rough on a cold ass morning. so i guess its mostly true... my 2.2 would vibrate you out of the seat if i tried that lol.
Thanks for the heads up. I've read a few guys that have bought a universal NAPA block heater and made it work. Being Winnipeg and all, I definitely want some sort of heater - whether the car will start or not.

I owned a STi in the past and sold it to go back to school. And this Cobalt still amazes me with what it can do!

You should get a tune done or gms1 if your already impressed.

You can get the magnetic oil pan heater from canaian tire it's pretty popular solution.

how do you get a magnet to attach to aluminum?

princess auto carries one too - and they actually had it on sale about a month ago, but the whole magnet on cast aluminum made me pass...

I'll go to a local NAPA at lunch - thanks for the lead!

When I was looking into this last March, the parts department said that the block heater was installed in a frost plug on one end of the head which was eliminated after 2005 - so maybe you're lucky because you got an early head!?

I ran mine last winter with winter tires and no heater. Other than my terrible battery I had no other issues.

More than likely someone installed one aftermarket if that's the case?

It's possible, but it also wouldn't be the first time I've seen an error in GM's own parts listings...

ok, so I just got back from the local NAPA;
the oil heater they can get (they don't stock it) is $189+tax
(plus it comes with no means of attaching to the oil pan - it needs to be siliconed into place - the guy said, and I quote: "it's areal messy job")

I think if I buy one, I'll buy online;

Got my balt back from the dealer today. 3days later and my god if the
- sunroof doesnt rattle (third time is the charm) (guaranteed to happen again)
-the dash trim doesnt rattle. (the actually insulated it all so its tight and wont move)
-headunit no longer makes a super anoying (rattle/squeek) (they discovered the wire harness wasnt tied down like it was suposed to be) sounds like a new car!(if i could only isolate the sound in the back...

And hey my hand break actually takes little to no effort to engage the breaks! its almost like i have break pads back there again!.......400$later.......

oh yeah and the power steering recall got done. its about time when the car wasnt warmed up it was becoming a bitch it would be so hard to turn sometimes. the steering feels taught and resposive now. anyone just waiting till it breaks should consider just doing it lol.
