Nope, haha... not nearly that bad. I would just hang myself if I had done that.
Car is black, but today wasn't that warm. Finished work early, pulled it in the shop, whipped out the heat gun and got to work. I have a set of interior trim tools that are awesome for things like this... they're sharp, don't scratch paint and have great leverage on them for pulling and such.
Removing the emblems was easy... too easy. The glue reactivated but completely remained on the paint, leaving my emblems dry as a bone as I removed them. They all snapped like twigs.. plastic. I was unaware of this. So now I have some glue to deal with.. no big deal. But what's this weird fabric layering? Never seen that before. Was only on the COBALT and SS badges, whereas the Turbocharged and bowtie were your standard glue backing.
This is where some of you may cringe, but I've done it before... old detailer's trick. Out comes the methyl hydrate. And the hose.
Get it all wet, dab a rag in some methyl, and go at the glue. Starts to dissolve... awesome! Just as it should be. But wait... it's not dissolving, and then just smearing around.
Not working!
To make a long story short.. I have a debadged car, with all the glue still remaining, and I worked so hard trying to remove just the glue from the little turbocharged emblem I have actually etched my paint. I've given up and will hopefully be having it repaired, I HOPE, tomorrow. Still waiting for a phone call back. Gonna cost me over $120... then I'm sure it will need to be polished.
I should have just waited a few more weeks, for a really hot, sunny day. In hindsight the heat gun did it's job, but the car itself was still too cool to try this. Ugh... I got no excuses this time.

ah that sucks man! I debadged 2 trunks. my stock one with the highrise and the wingless one I picked up. Both were a day and a half almost 2 day jobs. not fun! I scratched paint of but the touch up paint worked well for mine
What kind of car is it, and where is it coming from? I can ask some good and close friends if they'd like to do it for you, as many of them have their OOP papers.
I'm in for tomorrow night, deerfoot rims? OBAG we usually don't meet up at 61st and Barlow because (I was told this) it's the street racers hangout and some of the guys don't want to be associated with them
not any shop can do it.
and he told me NOT TO GO TO crappy tire.... big waste of moeny and time
take it do any major delaership-most will have someone certified, its a new car so anywhere you take it, it will be a quick inspection and pass, thats why i recomend going to cheapest place
