Performance data was never published. At leasty to my knowlege. This was an exercise in HP and durability. If I had to make a wild guess I'd say it would run high 9's to mid 10's. But that's just MY GUESS. The most interesting page is page 7. The STOCK 2001 Ecotec 2.2 block and head withstood 750 HP. And many improvements to the engine have been made since then. Especially the LNF. There's no reason to believe our stock block, head, bottom end and valve train wouldn't handle 750 HP. The VVT would be the biggest ?.
Exactly! So many guys talk about our "junk" pistons not being forged. Considering the next gen materials, oil squirters under them and DI our stock pistons should work fine. I wish the same "skunkworks" team would start again with a stock LNF and see how much power could be made using the best minds, materials and methods but retaining ALL stock parts. Except maybe VVT.
some people just always need something to bitch about.
but when i build my motor i will be doing all the forged internals. and try and get the best of everything just cause i'm weird like that and want to make a total beast lmao

The ecotec that gm was testing then was also an engine dyno. Zzp's 624 is every bit of 725 crank hp. The crazy thing is that was in 01, like buellfool said the products are only better today.

Gardellas Cobalt also set both ends of the national record in October at Englishtown, N.J. establishing the e.t. mark at 7.159 seconds and the top speed record at 202.79 mph. Because of long established rules on how national records are set, Gardella's Red Bull Chevy Cobalt actually went quicker and faster than his record setting marks posting a 7.156 elapsed time at Indianapolis and a 209.59 mph top speed at Dallas.
