First Timer...Be Supportive

Please keep the negative comments to yourself.

I went to the drag strip for the first time with my SS/TC Cobalt completely stock. On my first run I drove it easy, so I could see the track and find where the turnoffs were. I did not launch my car, I just took off like I normally would from a stoplight.

I ended up making 7 passes, although I could have easily done 20.

I raced against my friend who has a Dodge Challenger R/T mod: air intake, car #219.

I just went for my first time today too man. I'm gonna warn you tho, ur gonna get the crap flamed out of you for your reaction times and your total time. Even tho it was my first time out, my reaction was .1050 and I pulled off a 14.6. You just need some practice like I do. So don't take anything too personally that some of these other guys might say

Thanks Mike. At this track a perfect reaction time is .500, so take that into consideration. I still need to improve my reaction time greatly though. It was hard for me to watch the lights on the tree and go at the same time. I would watch it, it would turn green, and then I would look forward down the track and react. Correct me if I am wrong but reaction does not matter except for bracket racing.

I don't care about reaction time, I could start at my own pace and focus on the launch. I think if I actually launch my car and do it decent enough, I can get a better 60 foot time and everything else will follow.

I want to go again and try launching. I probably didn't do the most important thing in drag racing. I left my brain at home, lol.

You should be in the low 14's. You will get used to it, never pay attention to the car next to you its not all about winning.

the wierd thing is, even though his 60 foot times arent great by any means, they are certainly enough to go much lower then high 15's with his trap speed, seems your shifting must be very slow

You should watch the tree and don't even bother looking down the track until you actually start moving. When I did my best run, I watched the tree, launched around 2500 and didn't take my eye off the tree til I heard tires screaching. As long as you don't have your wheel turned, your car will go straight whether ur lookin down the track in that 1/4 second or not. I agree with unlimited too, you prolly need to shift way faster. I saw a guy at the track today in a stock T/C and he was runnin 14.1-14.4. It's all good tho, you just need practice.

there isn't much to be supportive of when you don't actually race the car....

very true. why even bring it to the track? i can understand taking it easy for a couple runs to get the hang of things, but high 15s in an ss/tc is kind of embarassing.

I didn't pay attention to the other car. I learned that from RC racing years ago. Yeah I should be in the 14's with practice.

That's the thing I was not launching, had a brain fart the whole day. I have been driving manual less than one year and never raced one. Launching is something I have never done before. I let the clutch out from idle and gave a little gas until I was moving then went 3/4 throttle, shifted to second WOT, shifted to third WOT. I had no wheel spin whatsoever on 5 of my 7 runs. One of the runs I spun all the way through first, feathering the throttle to get traction before shifting.

I like your optimism, that is a good point, the trap speed shows more potential. I know the car is faster, I just need a driver mod.

WOT is racing. I went WOT, that's racing. I'm not embarrassed at all, I'm not an experienced race driver so obviously a great time can't be expected.

NWAE, just hush man. You are arguing a stupid point. THey guy you are arguing with has went faster. Who cares?

aterminatorz...........speechless...............I just don't understand how you pull 18's and 16's from a 14sec car with a terrible driver. It will only go 13's with a very good driver. BUt 14's shouldn't be hard to accomplish at all. Wow. Maybe just not go back.

and your reaction time is pointless. No one cares about your reaction time. It has nothing to do with your pass.

Take your time... get used to your car... some people are more critcal then others about times... (not ball tagging anyone)... as long as your having FUN going down the strip then thats all that matters!

but then once your used to the car, do your best to get down ASAP!

don't get me wrong cuz i really am not trying to be negative. all i'm saying is anyone can go WOT at any point in time without going to the strip and wasting time and money. what's the point of finding out how fast you get to the end of a 1/4 mile if you aren't even trying to push the car to its limit from start to finish? racing isn't just hitting wot for most of the time and going on a sunday stroll for some of the time, it's lining usp against another car and trying to get to the finish line first. i just don't really understand your mentality.

i'm sorry, but 18s, 16s, and barely breaking into the 15s, is not racing a new tc. thats casual driving

for me to run a 15 on the track means i missed a gear and FAILED.

but you had low 14's which beat me. i ran a 14.5 1st time on the track 1st pass ever. after that it just got worse with me missing gears but then i got a CEL on my last pass and stopped after 3 passes for the night
