06 SS transmission rattle
I am pulling the transmission tomorrow. I found any awesome deal on a new oem flywheel and bought bolts from CED. I don't have any kind of measuring tools like that, otherwise I would. If it's not the flywheel or the bolts, I don't what else it could be.
Pulled the transmission out this evening. The some bolts were a little loose. One thing I noticed was that they were all tight getting out the whole way out. The old bolts that had broke were very easy to pull out, even without the heads on them. I'm thinking the bolts that I bought from the parts store may have been a tad too big. My flywheel and bolts will be in Tuesday. I'll install it and report what happens.
I matched the store bought bolts up with the OEM bolts and the thread pitch was off.. The guy was correct with the size to get, but he grabbed the wrong bolts. I should have checked, not sure why I didn't but I won't make that mistake again. SO I got a tap set, re-tapped the threads and put everything back together. I have been driving it for several days now and have had zero issues.
Lessons learned: Although I did not reuse the factory bolts, I learned the value of using new OEM bolts AND NEVER trust a parts store employee.. But hey, she has a new flywheel, clutch and bolts. This transmission shouldn't have to be pulled again for a long time.
