I like top gear better to be honest. Fifth gear is just a knock off.

you need to isolate your issue more, what happens differently when your highway driving that doesnt happen in the city..

I'm thinking a bad synchro as well. Strange for it to be 5th though, that's not usually a common one to go.

If they were more plentiful, would probably be cheaper to buy a salvage one than pay someone to crack yours open IF you can find someone other than the dealer to do it. But given that you have the LSD tranny and they don't pop up that often, probably not gonna happen. Best bet is find one that grenaded something else and use it as a donor for the synchro you need. No idea what a new one would run you, but I'm guessing it wouldn't be pretty.

Or just use this as an excuse to get one of the ZZP units.

i talked to zzp and the one on the site is for the lnf and no lsd. a new one is going to run about 2250 from gm and my trans has already been rebuilt by gm and there is not even 5000 miles on it yet because 2nd gear went out on it 2yrs ago .

Hrm. I would say look around for a used one first. Use car-part to look local, Morad out in Ohio (around Cleveland I think) deals with a lot of Cobalts and there's another one LKQ I think that salvages a lot of them, but they're eBay only and not local.
