Here are the part numbers from SPEC to work with the F40. same part numbers for the Saab 9-3 2.0 with the F40. Also confirmed the flywheel has the 8 bolt pattern for the LSJ

flywheel pn SS23A-2 and clutch # SS232-2 (for 385 ft lbs) or SS233H-2 (for 440 ft lbs)

Matt, did you figure this out yet? The trans hooks up so far pretty good but the intermediate shaft is a few inches too short. There is the saab intermediate shaft part 9186588

lol, yeah, we just ordered a Saab shaft on Thursday. We are planning to move the engine and trans towards the passenger side a little as well. Otherwise, the driver side axle will be nearly fully compressed. We just have to wait and see how the passenger side axle sits with the new intermediate shaft.

Damn. I'm still waiting for someone to accomplish it and give an overview of what's required and what parts are needed. Itching to put one in my LNF. The F35 and F40 seem so similar that it's tempting to give it a go...

Generally need someone to flat out say either A) Yes, it's possible but it's hella' difficult and you'll hate life for attempting it, or B) Yes, it's possible with only a few parts and steps more involved than a normal tranny swap.

its possible, just by the time you are done it may not be worth the cost. You need the saab bellhousing, saab slave cylinder, saab intermediate shaft, LSD (optional), new clutch and flywheel, drivers side axle, shift cables and shifter, custom trans mounts

I had heard that it was dropped because the F40 was a "high friction" design, and in the end the fuel economy suffered enough for GM to can it as an option...
I heard nothing about quality ect issues...

That would be (on many conventional transmssions) the main shaft - and I'd see no reason for that to have changed;
typically when GM has different bellhousing versions of the same transmission, the spline count will only change is the transmission's torque capacity is different
EG: V8 versus I-4 T-5's

EDIT: - it looks lie this was solved then huh?

This is a cool swap idea - I mean there is always the "wow" factor of a transmission with more gears, and the Caliber SRT4, as well as the Speed3 both get six speed's...

Neat thread... even if it is a year old....
