All wheel drive swap??

I kinda wanted to bring up the notion of awd on these cars. Now, before making quick comments, please read the rest of my post....

I'm a big DSM guy, and recently I was trying to think of a new project to work on. My current plan is to find a 95-99 Eclipse Spyder GS-T, and convert it to awd since the spyder (convertible) never came in awd. And then on top of that, but the front and rear bumpers from a 2g Talon on it. Then a buddy of mine was telling me about his project. He's trying to convert a 3rd gen eclipse to awd and swap in a 4g63 motor from an evo8. So I got to thinking about awd swaps and since my daily is an 08 cobalt tc, I started to think of how an awd swap on one of these would go.

So I did some searching on this forum and came up empty. The only thing I found was a post of someone doing a RWD swap using a tremec trans, rotating the engine 90, and a 9" Ford rear end. Now it's also a race car, so the car was down to the frame. I guess I am wondering if the rear subframe from another car would be swappable with some minor fabrication. Maybe the SSR or some SUV? I'm not real familiar with 4x4 or awd Chevy's. But that would be key. Then a custom driveshaft could easily be made, custom exhaust, and then there would need to be a transmission/transfer case combo that would bolt up to the motor.

So I wanted to post up here and see if you guys knew of any swappable awd items that might make this swap relatively feasible. I think an awd version of this car would be hella fun to drive and do extremely well at the track. So let me know what you guys think.

Ok, again guys, please keep your snarky comments to yourself unless they are useful. I am fully aware that a project of this nature takes a lot of time, fabrication, and money. All I'm asking for is some more information on what parts from other cars would be feasible to use as part of the swap. I understand that I could spend less money and get an awd car. So please, please, only post a comment if it is useful to this thread.

And yes, I understand he has a lot of money into that RWD cobalt. Most project cars aren't cheap. I am well aware of this.

They said that this has been descussed and it was determined that the drivetrain from a Saturn Vue would be the best candidate.

yes, there are indeed parts that will "bolt up" or be somewhat compatible, but given the placement of the delta body's steering rack, intermediate shaft, and other stuff, this swap is not really practical let alone possible without fabricating pretty much the entire thing under a delta body shell.

like i said, do some searching, this has all been figured out before.

Bingo. Steering rack is the biggest problem.
