Clutch pedal
Clutch pedal
So I was driving down the road and pressed in the clutch. There was a loud snap and the pedal now goes all the way to the floor. It still drives fine, but when stick my head under there and press the pedal, there is a sound like a broken piece of metal is dangling. My guess is the pressure spring or whatever it is snapped, but I don't know for sure. In all honesty, I like the pedal feel more now than before, lol. Less effort required to push it down.
Anyone had this happen? Like I said, clutch engages just fine and has only mild slippage after a hard 80k miles. Trying to sell it, so I want to know what it is so I know whether it needs fixed or not.

Did some searching and th eLS1 guys have the same issue. Its the return spring. Not neccessary. They are brittle. They have a TSB out for them. Not sure if we do. I like it better without.
Spring popped out a few minutes ago while on a beer run. Notice the left bend. The end of it is chipped. that is where it snapped. According to LS1 tech, this is quite common on GM cars. No worries for me. I decided to do a WOT run 1st to bottom of 4th to see if it caused any issues and it is like a friggin track car now. Shifts are so much faster without having to slam my foot into the pedal. If you want to spend a day finding the spring and removing it, I'd say go for it. You may also just get lucky and snap it like I did.
Mine snapped 2 years ago, I bought a new pedal, cause that's the only way to get a spring , tried to install it once and gave up cause I couldn't get the cable out of the back of the pedal. Been fine since.
Ahh. Did you replace yours?
Nice. Its so much nicer without the spring.

Its only hard compared to my mazda, which has the smoothest pedal I have ever stepped on. The broken piece on the Saturn gives it more of a Mazda feel, or more refined and less like a pickup truck clutch pedal.

Alrighty. I'll let people try out the slightly underwhelming Mazda if they'd like. Its so much smoother than the Cobalts, but without the turbo, just doesn't have the torque.
Either way it feels shitty, so.... I want to replace I just don't have the motovation to climb into my car upside-down to figure out what's up down there after fixing other peoples cars all day. I just wanna go home....
lol Only issue with mine is the cruise keeps shutting off. I'm going to look into having Vince change the resistance needed in the clutch to disengage the CC. It works fine otherwise.
Looks like I'm going to have to. Its starting to annoy me a tad. Might just sell it as is and let the next owner deal. Its not as if it hurts anything, just adds to the list of weird things I've dealt with from this car.
Lmao! Glad to see I'm not the only one with a list of crap I just deal with! This car is such a turd...
