Engine Swap

I have come to the conclusion that I need to do an engine swap on my car. I currently have a LS with a 2.2L. I am thinking about the possibility of upgrading to a 2.0 from an SS. The only problem I see right off the bat is that most SS models are manual trans and I have an auto. I know that it is possible to do a trans conversion but its not easy to say the least.

My question is would it be possible to do the engine swap and swap ecu, bcm, pcm etc and have the car reprogrammed for an auto instead of a manual. I don't think that there were any cobalts made with this configuration so I would assume that it would have to be a custom tune. I know there were some SS cars with an auto trans but they use the 2.4 and are NA.

Would I just be better off doing an exact swap and then add FI later and have it tuned? Or possibly using the stock 2.4 and upgrading it? Would there be much of a difference in performance between the 2.2 and 2.4?

Easier to build a hybrid motor or build the 2.2

Dont have the money to buy another car and have put a lot of money into my car currently. Just wondered what would be the best option as I have seen numerous drivetrain setups for sale close to me for cheap.

Just turbo your car and call it a day. Will cost more to swap

The price of an engine swap is much more than just building yours unless you find a donor car.

Well I am better off doing a swap then to rebuild my engine cuz my engine is pretty much toast. It would have to be completely torn apart and re-machined. I am pretty sure I had sandblasting material go through the engine and cause all types of problems. I found someone close to me that has a totaled car that is selling the drivetrain for cheap. Car was hit in the rear so there is no damage to the drivetrain. Just didnt know if I would be better to try and upgrade to a different engine at this time or just go with another 2.2 and mod it

No, no it will not. To get things working properly, the parts, the wiring, the tuning....its going to cost you much more than it would be to get either a new 2.2 and just put it in, and/or just get your current one fixed.
