F23 Fluid Compatability
just wanting to know if anyone with a non supercharged/turbo model has used anything but the atf that came in the trans?
if so what did you use and how did it affect it?
im considering switching to syncromesh fluid or gear oil..
any input?

if you go to syncromesh or gear oil you will burn it up from lack of lube. the transmission is designed for atf, which is very thin. thick oil like syncromesh or gear oil cant get through the lube passages sufficiently and will cause it to overheat from lack of lube and turn into a ball of junk.
feel free to try synthetic atf if you feel so inclined, or a fluid designed specificly to replace atf is a manual transmission

Jpunishment has Mobil 1 in his 2.2
I put Amsoil ATF in my 2.4 last month. Marginal difference at this time of year, although I suspect I might have noticed more of a difference in the middle of winter. The trans feels slightly "lighter" if that makes sense. There was little difference over OEM Dexron VI.
I imagine someone with an older car with Dexron III, who replaces it with Dexron VI might notice a slight improvement. But that is just a guess on my part.

The F23 uses Dexron type ATF only. All of them can use Dexron VI spec fluids, Redline D6 is nice but isnt technically a GM certified fluid. 05-06 cars originally came filled with Dexron III and can use Dex VI or any fluid that exceeds Dexron III specs, I personally really like Mobil 1 ATF and put it in every manual trans that originally had DexIII in it. never any issues.
