Friggin clutch!

Took my brother for a ride tonight to show him what to expect when i race him in his '91 Z28 with a L98 350.I took off easy and stretched out the rpm's till about 3500 and then punched it.It spun the tires a little and i grabbed 2nd at about 6 grand and it slipped the cluth bad.I watched the r's and it stayed at 6000 but it wasn't pullin worth a ****.He laughed and said"if it does that your gonna get your ass handed to you!"and i would have to agree.Time to call the dealer, they better not give me the abuse bullshit because i just started driving the car and have only put 500 miles on it myself and have yet to exceed 90 mph.It just turned 11000 miles this afternoon so i hope they don't give me crap.If i can't use it to it's potential occasionally what's the sense?

Take it to your dealer, complain like no other. Express how you only put 500 miles on it and it SHOULD NOT be doing that. Hope they cover it.

Thank you. With this clutch, you have to press it in, pause a half a second while shifting then you can chirp 2nd. All of the other gears you can slam like there is no tomorrow. This is why I at least tend to race from a 40 roll. Learn about the car, then bitch.

So your suggesting i didn't let the clutch fully engage before i hammered back into the throttle after the gear change?Wrong.Been driving standard shift for a long while and i've never had this problem before.I suppose the clutch could be glazed from the former owner but i haven't been abusive at all.If i ran the **** out of it all the time i could understand maybe but the way i drive this car it should not slip when accelerating hard and shifting properly. They will fix it or i will sell it and get a car under warranty that can put it's power where it should be,the pavement.

Learn about the car then bitch huh?I'm learning fast that the clutches are junk.If you can't race from a dig what's the sense.I'll just tell people"sure i'll race, but we gotta go from a roll cause my clutch slips unless i pause a second hand you the race then oh yeah....engage the clutch. You can do better than that can't you?

He's actually right dude. These clutches take a little getting used to. Once you figure it out, you will be on your way though.

Wasn't trying to **** anyone off,i just don't get it i guess.I'll go out tomorrow and try what you guys are suggesting,i just can't see it being conducive to winning races against someone who can shift quickly and apply power immediatly.

Lets face it, if you are into drag racing the stock clutch is not for you. Works fine for road course use which is what the car was made for anyway.

It's the gear spacing that really sucks not the clutch. Once you figure out the proper way to shift this car... your clutch will love you.... I'm not even gonna post my usual rant on this... but 19k miles, 296 whp.. never slipped

My car is getting a new clutch as i write this. After a test drive the mechanic said it needed to be replaced.Just came from there and the guy doing the work showed me the old pressure plate and it appears whomever owned the car before couldn't drive stick fer ****.The mechanic said for it to look like it does they must have rode around with thier foot on the clutch at all times and the heat just nuked it.It's a wonder something else isn't trashed!I figured they would have the pressure plate resurfaced but they are gonna replace it all at the behest of the mechanic.I figured they would take the cheap way out but they have impressed me.
