Help with an auto to 5spd swap
Now that I will have all this extra power from the turbo setup, and a transmission that won't be able to handle it (4T45E) unless being completely rebuilt. I'd rather swap it over to a 5spd out of say a Cobalt 2.4, before I buy a transmission I'd like to know if it's possible without extensive fabrication (I know there will have to be some). I don't have the time to do it myself but need it done ASAP, if possible.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
Thank you

It would take alot of work and fabrication man. You have the same tranny I have it actually is rated higher to handle more hp then the 5speed getrag. I believe it can handle about 300hp and over 300tq.

It doesnt require any "fabrication" to speak of, but its a **** load of work, easily 12-16hrs for even a highly skilled technician. Plan on the better part of a week at home.
Its cheaper and easier and most likely quicker to get your 4T45 built. A good trans tech could have it done for you in one day.

What if it were a built trans? What about an ss trans (if they're different). Its also a daily driver so I would rather not have an auto slaming gears, plus I don't really stand on it a lot.

The F23 out of the 2.4 and 2.2 cars is rated at 170 lb/ft.
The F35 out of the 2.0 FI cars is rated at 258 lb/ft.
OP - save your time and money, your slushbox will handle more than either of the manual boxes
BTW, this has got to be the tenth "Auto to Manual" thread this year - and it's still January

lol you want to get rid of the auto because you don't think it can handle the turbo, so your gonna replace it with a tranny that is half as strong? Stick with the auto, it can handle the turbo. Celica ran a turbo setup for 2 years before his tranny took a dump, i think his clutch packs wore out.

What if it were a built f23 or f25? I dont know if they have the same bell housing pattern or not. Sorry I dont get on here a whole lot, this isn't just a "what if" question though. I'll have about $3k here in a bit and want to do something to my car.

Ive seriously considered this swap. Honestly though just putting a Quaife into the F23 would be cheaper.

Well ****, guess I'll wind up having it built. I also have a GAGT w/4T45E and was just under the impression the 4T45E sucked *****. I just really want it to be daily drivable.
How much have turbo/sc auto owners played with the tg management and line pressure and such?

It's much easier to do a auto to manual swap in the GA's than it would be in a Cobalt. The Cobalt heavily relies on electronic control, and removing the auto and replacing it with a stick upsets the vehicle's computers as it expects there to be the auto and the TCM. You're looking at a cost of at least 5 Grand if you do all the work yourself.
