shortening the throw of a shift has nothing to do with the length of the actual shifter, it's the design and placement of the shifter that matters. Infact, by cuting your shifter you're just shooting your self in the foot, because you're loosing leverage, making it physicaly harder to shift. Hate to burst your bubble but cuting the shifter does not effect the length of the throw

.... I'll try to find an explantion on google or sumthing

this is the only explanation i could find, it kinda sux cause it doesn't give an explanation of how it works... but here it is anyway, I got this off TWM's website

1. What is a short shifter?

A common misconception in the industry is that a short throw shifter is just a chopped off version of the stock shifter, in reality it is a much more complex part. The geometry of a short throw shifter has been altered in such a way as to reduce the distance that the upper section of the shifter needs to move to achieve the same degree of movement in the lower section.

I just don't know what to think. I think it would have been better in the polished because it would have matched the trim around the boot. I don't know if I like the color. It does look a lot nicer quality than the B&M.

It looks good, but I agree with the polished looking better. If anyone finds out what you have to do to get a polished one, let us know in a new thread. I will do the same if I find it.

I understand the concept that the geometry of the piece was changed to shorten the throws. I let B&M take care of that one. My shortening of the B&M design DID indeed shorten my throws down to a minor wrist flick saving me time getting into gears. Yes, more effort has to be put into it, but it's not enough to worry about. It takes me such a minimal amount of time to get into gear after the chop that I literally had to change my clutch let off timing to compensate for how fast I was getting into gear.

Simple concept to understand in the lever mechanics. The shorter the lever, the more effort needed, but the shorter the distance to throw.

I would have gone with a TWM if they made one for the SS/SC because their shifters are awesome. I've driven a couple cars with the TWM, and they do make the throws a lot nicer.

I just installed mine, and the reverse lockout doesnt work. You can just put it right in without lifting it up. Anyone else have this problem? If not maybe I missed a step. But it does shift awsome!!

This is very basic but might help in explaining what the short shifter does and The concept behind it. (The drawing is not actually how it works but the effect is the same.)

I want the Hurst with a Carbon Fiber shift knob,

well I heard back from Hurst, Spoke to Jim their Chief tech and engineer, he says they are aware of this problem. this part was prototyped on a car and worked fine, but they recently installed one in a brand new 07 and the shifter does not go into rev. with the reverse lockout.
It goes in without like a lot of us are experiencing.

they are working on this to determine what has changed/ or not changed that causes this.

Question:Anyone that has installed this shifter and do not have the use of the lockout, was your shifter EVER replaced under warranty?

now I bought my car new, but I can't be 100% the shifter was never replaced, the car was built in november 2004 and i didnt buy it until August 2005. The cam sensor recall was done and it was at a few dealerships before I bought it. I'm assuming the shifter wasn't replaced because the shift knob popped off about 3 months ago for the first time and it doesnt look like it was ever fixed or glued or screwed or anything. I can measure my stock shifter (very accurately) if that would help anyone figure anything out about this.
