Input shaft, Clutch or TOB? opinions please
Ok I'm now considering all 3 options but would like to hear some feedback if you've gone through this yourself or heard an identical scenereo. When the car is started there is a loud grinding sound not consistent but sequentially almost sounding like my clutch plate is unevenly grinding against my flywheel. Car goes into gear but the gear does not engage or even feel like its trying to engage for that matter, I can also slide it into gear without touching the clutch. All gears feel good and tight. When the clutch is shoved in (seperated from the flywheel) the noise goes away and the car idles properly. When the clutch isn't shoved in the idle is thrown off creating a significant hesitation and once again loud grinding/vibration. I'd like as many opinions as I can get I'm not able to pull the trans til next week but am extremely curious! 05 cobalt SS/SC 241k

Either way you have to pull the trans to see any of it. I would bet on a tob, but if you pull the trans to check you might as well have a clutch and tob ready to go in.

so before i got into a fun tranny removal to diagnose the problem i pulled off the passenger wheel while getting another person to put it in gear and hit the gas. my int. driveshaft was turning so i considered a bad cv joint. when i took that all apart i found the bracket that holds the shaft to the cv joint was broke. had to order the part from gm and it comes in tomorrow, 90 % sure itll cure the issue at this point pretty glad it doesnt appear to be the clutch or trans,
