Le5 Tranny

Hey guys i found a tranny for a 2.4 that i have. It is listed with only 10,000 miles and its $425 bucks. I'm thinking about building my car next summer most likely with f/i. Is this a good deal on this tranny and what are the chances it could be bad for only having 10,000 miles? If it is a good deal i'm gonna pick it up just to have a spare

Cryo'd is cryogenic treatment. It involves freezing the parts to about -300F. This freezing does 3 major things, 1: it converts some of the random minerals in the steel into different much more regularly shaped minerals that hold onto each other better, 2: it alters the carbon structure of the part, making it more durable(it will last longer against friction) and 3: it is a stress relieving procedure, that actually allows the parts to molecularly relaign and reduce internal stresses that would likely contribute to a failure.

A rebuild on an F23 should go for about 15-16 hours of shop time.

Cryo treament on an F23 should run around $400-600

No, I am not joking. **** I get 5.9 hours to R&R a trans in a Cobalt under warranty, youd never get me to open one for 6.

Customer pay time for a Cobalt F23 R&R is 8.0 and its 15.6 for a rebuild w/ differential overhaul

In a Cavy is where you get 6 hours for an R&R
Book time on the rebuild w/diff overhaul is 10.8.

If I personally (on the side)was doing a Cobalt F23 I would probably be looking for like 12-13 hours.

ive rebuilt a couple f23s, no big deal, i can have em done in less than 6 hours bench labour only.. re/re on a cavalier is very generous at 6 hours, i can have one out in less than 1 hour and back in with the clutch bled in about 1.5. i havent had the tranny out of a cobalt yet, im sure gm exagerates re/re times like the cavalier. i guess ill find out soon enough as im needing to do the clutch on my own car.

If we are talking overhail time only, yeah I could probably get one done in 3 hours, 4 is about average though.

im sure gm exagerates re/re times
Exaggerates times, that would be the f*cking day. 30% of GM times are reasonable, 50% of them are break even affairs if youve got a few under your belt. 10% of them your gonna lose some time. and 10% of them are gonna kick your ass every time unless youre a freaking god and have your own procedure dialed.

The last dealer(ive moved on for several reasons, this being one) I worked at I had one bay, and did about 90% warranty work. The place was known as "give-away Chevrolet" and I had to bust my ass every week just to make 40.

i agree warrenty times are bs, hence why i will not work at a dealership. im a transmission tech at a privatly owned shop. i make salary, works out well for me. when i see gm non warrnety times i laugh, they are exagerated, however if i was on flate rate id love it. i hate chrysler, a lot of them now dont have a warrnety time anymore, its all basicly rediculous times like gm warrenty times.

Yeah I switched dealers back in July, the new place is more like an all GM repair shop instead of GM dealership service department. I love cash work. We are wicked slow right now, but I still end up making the same as I did at the last sho on an average week. My average week is back up just shy of 50 where it should be.
