Sounds like your shifter needs adjusting. Those TWM's loosen up over time...

Andd those sounds are pretty much normal for an SS in the cold. Get used to it, lol.

Drive it until something breaks! Then fix it and break it again lol

If it's grinding when you're WOT then that's not good, lol. Not sure what it could be though. Definitely check the trans fluid, the symptoms you're describing sound like low fluid almost. Axle seals and everything OK?

The output shaft seals are in the trans not the axle. Look around where the axle goes into the trans, if it were leaking there would be a small red puddle on the lip around the seal. On the passenger side when mine leaked it liked to run back and drip off the rear trans mount.

Those axle seals also like to leak the most when driving, not while the car is stationary. You can lose a lot of fluid and unless you are under the car and happen to notice wetness around the seals then you might not even know it until it's too late.

I always caught mine while doing an oil change.

yeah that's why i replaced them 10k miles ago for the 2nd time lol. i want some nice DSS axles but you know... $800... meh... good to have axles as the weak point rather than the trans

its the wheel bearing. there doesn't always have to be excessive play for the wheel bearing to be bad.

I have this sometimes. Have you tried going into 3rd gear first? It works for me.

them wheelbearings, people say you cant take the tire off and feel if its bad, well i could tell. i turned the disc slowly, faster, back and forth. and as soon as i tried the otherside and felt a good wheel bearing, i knew instantly.

was slower rolling, slightly catching, that kinda deal. but my car sounded like a semi on the highway lol, when it quit, it quit fast

p.s no play in it at all.

Yea if it's bad it'll feel gritty when you turn it. If there's actual play in it then that means it's been bad for a long time, lol.

problemos:

1st and most alrming one: when flooring it, mostly in 2nd & 3rd, a bad grinding type of noise. definately drivers side so assuming trans/clutch related.

2nd: while decelerating mostly and now even when accelerating, i am hearing a slight repeating thumping noise, that slows down as the car does. sounds alot like when a rotor is warped but i know the rotors are fine.

3rd: after pulls i often smell burning and i think it smells like burning clutch. car doesnt 'slip' however.

4th: its slowly been getting harder more often to get into 1st and reverse

my buddys telling me possibly a t.o.b. / clutch disc issue.

car had new gmpp clutch kit with other stuff put in maybe 20-30k miles ago. im a good driver (dont burn clutch much) but i do ride her hard
ok just to set it straight...

the rapid thumping noise, i am assigning to intermittent hub problems. i think if it was a trans problem it would grind and thump every time i lay on it, my last two drives with the car, it made no such noises.

turns out shifting into 1st and reverse simply gets stiff when its cold.

it was the t.o.b. causing the burning issue. found this when the clutch was out. clutch was burning a bit and i don't slip much

soo idk guys. guess the trans is ok, i just have bad luck with axles and hubs for the most part. doesn't help that some shop installed my clutch last time
