You down shift on heavy braking without properly matching (blipping the throttle) the revs! Clutch lets go and the center springs explode along with the disc. Good thing....imagine what would happen to the tranny if it didn't grenade. Now, if ya did exactly the same thing with a beefier clutch..guess who takes the punishment now.
Be carefull.

Grrrrrrrrrrr F--kin slave let go. It was the brand new upgraded one. Came out this morning and the master cylinder was allready half empty. I drove home last night without the clutch 4 miles slowly by matching gears to shift and when I had to stop I just turned the car off and started it up in first gear. F-------------kin ^$@$*&(^$#!!!!$%^$#*)_&
Plus I got a coon or some other critter going crazy in the back yard. He picked the wrong time to F--K with me

Sorry, but the clutch should see almost no wear from downshifting. I assume you're stuffing it into gear w/o heel-toe (or at least a hard gas blip) on the way down. This means you're using the clutch as a brake. Of course it's going to let go at some point, it's just that yours was rather dramatic.
A stronger clutch is only going to hide the root cause here. I do about 150 NLS and matching downshifts a day while I'm at the track. I'm still on the stock clutch.
