In an open diff (what all Cobalts except SS/SC's w/the G85 package have), the only wheel that gets power is the passenger side wheel. So if for some reason, that wheel loses traction, you lose power. With a Limited Slip Differential, BOTH front wheels get power, so that if one loses traction, you still have power to the other one.

trialskid, you're GROSSLY oversimplifying the process. It takes a LOT of work to tear down a tranny to install an LSD. And yes, there are some bearings that come into play I believe.

My question is if you have both trannies, why not just put the LSD tranny in the car and call it a day?

both wheels get power but it goes to the one slipping less while an lsd sends power back to the slipping wheel

both wheels get power in a non/lsd.....
just if 1 loses traction it doesnt transfer more power to the gripping wheel thats all.
