those of you who have rode in G85 balts and then non G85 balts how much of a difference does the lsd make? is it worth spending the money to buy the LSD?

Thumbs down

The only place it makes a real difference is on the track, or inclement road conditions. If you're not going to be a regular racer then it's no where near worth it. It's $1000 just for the part, then the labor to have somebody drop your tranny and install it.
I am a regular racer and haven't convinced myself to spend that kind of money.
There are cheaper versions that are not the quaife but it's said that they don't last unless you replace some bearings/washers or something then they're supposed to be good to go.
There's a guy on the forum that talks about what you have to do to the cheaper ones to make them good. Do enough searching and you'll find where he posts about it.

DAMNIT, Where was this guy when I needed him?
I'm buying an Exedy today from ALL ECOTEC and still need the LSD. Planning on running at least two series this year, maybe more. The LSD sure would help.

I am hung up on this as well. I am building my 2.2 to make about 350hp at the crank and the rest of the car. I want it to be fun to drive and I want it to be a mustang killer. It will be my daily driver and that damn LSD is expensive. my build is already pricey, I just wonder if it will be worth it to install that LSD. FWD and over 300hp at the wheels, I probably dont have a choice.

Go biog or go home....pay now or pay later. The quaife LSD is bullet proof, ditto the Exedy thats the way to go,100% if you are spending the dough to do 300 whp (stout dreams) then you need all the drivetrain help you can get. I have a new LSD take out off an F35 delivery mileage only PM me if you are interested...

LSD isnt that effective in FWD. Well for what I assume you are talking about (1/4 mile like acceleration). In theory its suppose to make both tires spin at the same time, giving greater traction, in RWD applications this is great, because you can go 100% lock where neither tire can turn at all without the other turning, giving greatly inproved performance. In FWD applications though, due to the need to actually steer the car, they cannot have a very affective locker. Reasons being if you had a locker in a front axle of anything, when you turn the inner and outer tire turn at different speeds, which makes it very hard to sterr if you disable their ability to independently turn.

Im not familiar with the G85 and what % slip it is. However what you really want is a locker that locks up 100% when your doing the 1/4 mile and something like 20% on the road (again not familiar with the G85 %)

Ok so summery, its always good to have it, if you dont you really arnt missing much unless you do a road course. Alot of debate on the LSD vs non LSD on this forum, I dont believe its worth the 1000 bucks, try other traction mods.

I can easily spin the inside tire in my 2.4L. A LSD is a must in a FWD car with 200+ HP.

Yes because your LSD is a fairly open locker. I agree its a must in almost everything making any kind of power. However because you have to turn the car, you will never get enough lock to really justify 1000 bucks in my book.

My truck is 100% locked, it did wonders for traction, however both tires still spin together at times.

For 1000 bucks Id get mounts and tires.

I am in disbelief that there are people planning to do builds here that don't think they need an LSD.

ummm there are plenty of balts without lsd that put down some serious power .... the fact that you commented on a thread from 2008 is the funnier part.

My car is an open diff car and puts the power down just fine.... 300whp

The lsd is a big help in the road course for exiting turns and such, but in a straight line, either trans should have no issue putting down the power.

Maybe you should read the dates of threads before posting nonsense.

Back in 08' people on this site did not understand lsd vs non lsd trans.
